Man Facing Charges After Puppies Rescued

A Hubertus man is looking at charges after animal rescuers say he was selling puppies out of the back of his pickup truck.  Prosecutors in Washington County last week filed charges against 34-year-old Colton Brooder.  He’s accused of animal mistreatment.  Police got a tip about Brooder after someone said he had 20 puppies in the bed of his truck, and another 20 in the cab.  In all, animal rescuers took 50 puppies from Brooder.  They’ve all been adopted to new

UW Health Keeps Masks Mandates

UW Health says it’s keeping its mask mandate despite the okay from the CDC to move-on. The CDC yesterday said hospitals and nursing homes that are not in an area of high coronavirus activity can drop their mask requirements. Dane County is currently listed as a medium activity county. UW Health managers say they are not making a change, at least not yet. The hospital says it will take another look at its mask policy in two weeks.

WI Fill Ups Drain Wallets

It costs more to fill-up in Wisconsin than many other states. Triple-A says Wisconsin drivers are paying more than the national average for a gallon of regular gas. The national average is three-dollars and 72-cents, while the Wisconsin average is three-dollars and 76-cents. Gas prices have been rising recently. Gas prices are more than five cents higher than last week, and may go higher still. Forecasters say Hurricane Ian could disrupt oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico this week.

A 14-year-old, reported to be her cousin, is looking at homicide charges after police say he beat, strangled, then sexually assaulted her back in May. WI Sees First Human Case of West Nile

Somebody in Sheboygan County is Wisconsin’s first person to get West Nile this year. The state’s Department of Health Services confirmed the case yesterday. There have been a handful of West Nile cases in animals across the state this year, but this is the first human case. This is the time of year when West Nile typically peaks in people, as more people are out at dusk and dawn.

Lawsuit Filed Against Parole Commission

There’s now a lawsuit over Governor Evers’ Parole Commission and who it has released from prison. The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty yesterday filed an open records suit against the Parole Commission for not providing records on cases, decisions, and parolees. Elections 101: New Videos Aim to Show WI Process

Wisconsin’s election managers are sharing Elections 101 lessons with local high schools that include a lesson on lowering the voting age. The DNR says there’s no reason to fear reports of a wolf in Eau Claire County. The state says it got a ‘credible report’ of a large wolf last week. Vos Fights Subpoena

 Wisconsin’s Assembly Speaker is fighting a subpoena from the January 6th Committee.  Assembly Speaker Robin Vos yesterday challenged the subpoena in court.  The Democratic-led committee sent Vos the subpoena last week.  The Committee wants him to testify about his conversations with President Trump regarding Wisconsin’s 2020 election results.  Vos said yesterday that all of his conversations with the former president came after January 6th, and he was clear that Wisconsin could not overturn the 2020 election results.  The January 6th Committee is set

Pentagon Connects to Oshkosh for Army Contract

 The Pentagon continues to send more work to Oshkosh.  Oshkosh Defense yesterday announced it has landed a 263 million-dollar contract to produce trailers for the Army.  They are officially called the Enhanced Heavy Equipment Transporter System.  Oshkosh Defense already makes the trucks that haul the trailers.  The contract lasts for five years.  It’s not clear if the work will be done in Wisconsin or at another plant.
