Charges Pending After Attack on Jail Guard

Dane County’s sheriff is investigating an attack on a jail guard. It happened Friday evening inside the county jail. Investigators say a guard was speaking with a prisoner on the jail sixth floor, when the prisoner then attacked the guard with a ‘makeshift weapon.’ Other guards then rushed-in and rescued the guard. In all, the sheriff’s office says, two guards were injured. Charges in the attack are pending.

WI Ump Killed in Car Crash

It’s a sad day for baseball across Wisconsin. The Madison Mallards say Northwoods League umpire Conor McKenzie died in a car crash over the weekend. He was on his way to call yesterday’s game in Madison. Two other umps who were riding with him were also injured in the crash. Deadly Crash in Dunn County

Dunn County responders were on site of a deadly crash. It was on Sunday June 9th, at approximately 9:40pm, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department responded to a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 94 in Dunn County at milepost 38eastbound. Upon arrival it was discovered the driver of one of the vehicles, 32-year-old Wenxuan Han, from Baldwin Park, CA was deceased. The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.

MKE Police Search for Shooting Suspects

 Amid a violent weekend, no one was shot in Milwaukee on Saturday. Police in the city say four people were shot on Friday, and four others were shot on Sunday, but no one was shot on Saturday. Just one person died in the eight shootings, Milwaukee Police say a 48-year-old Milwaukee man was shot in his car just before 7 a.m. Friday morning. There’s no word about suspects or a motive in that case.

School Funding Heads to Courts

The top Republican in the Wisconsin Assembly says a court will have to decide if Governor Evers has the power to extend school funding out for the next 400 years. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos was on UPFRONT over the weekend. He called the governor’s partial veto, which eliminated some numbers and a dash to extend a proposed two-year school funding increase out until the year 2425, ‘questionable.’ Wisconsin governors have broad veto powers, but Vos said it remains to be seen if the governor

Tax Cut Conversation Continues

Wisconsin’s governor says he’s willing to talk about a broader tax cut, but he wants something in return. Governor Tony Evers told a Madison TV station over the weekend that he vetoed the Republicans’ three-and-a-half billion-dollar tax cut from the state budget because it was ‘too broad.’ The governor says he’s willing to negotiate about a new tax cut, but wants to see what else Republican lawmakers are willing to bring to the table. Northern Lights in the Northwoods

The northern lights could be visible in the skies over Wisconsin and more than a dozen other states this week.  The University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute is predicting high activity of the aurora borealis on Thursday across Canada and much of the northern U.S.  The best time to see the northern lights will be from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. local time, and the best place to see them will be in rural areas away from the city lights.

Arrest Leads to 7th OWI

An arrest leads to a 7th OWI for a Texas man traveling in Wisconsin. Alfredo Pizarro, 46 years of age, from Abilene, TX has been arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol Eau Claire Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 7th offense. On 07/08/23 at approximately 1:14am, a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper observed a vehicle stopped on the right shoulder of Interstate 94 near milepost 53 in Dunn County.
