HUMAN REMAINS FOUND IN TOMAH

Authorities are investigating after human remains were found in Tomah.  Police say the remains were found late yesterday morning in the 700 block of Townline.  It could now be a lengthy process to positively identify the remains.

JURY SELECTION UNDERWAY IN CASE OF RUSK COUNTY DEPUTY DEATH

Jury selection is underway for a man accused of killing a Rusk County Deputy. Doug Nitek is charged with over 30 counts in connection with the October 2016 shooting death of Dan Glaze.  The deputy was killed while responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle in a field outside the Village of Conrath.

MAN CHANGES PLEA

 A man accused of shooting Eau Claire officers with a BB gun is changing his plea.  Emmitt Ritter-Simpson withdrew his plea of not guilty by mental disease or defect yesterday and entered a plea of not guilty. He faced 15 counts, including disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer following a January standoff.

WALKER TALKS TAX CREDIT

Governor Walker is looking to provide tax relief for seniors and parents paying for child care in the upcoming state budget.  Walker announced yesterday that he would create a new tax credit for parents paying for child care and would seek a 50-percent increase in a refundable tax credit for low-income seniors.  The credit for low-income seniors is a housing credit that was cut from the most recent state budget.

FBI AGENTS SEARCH HOME

At least one person is in custody as FBI agents execute a search warrant at home in Kronenwetter.  Agents were seen removing items from a home on the corner of Gary Lee and Sun Meadow drives this morning.  WSAW-TV reports the agents were from the Child Exploitation Task Force.  The one person who was taken into custody faces a probation violation.

BODY OF MISSING MAN FOUND

The body of a man found dead Sunday morning in a northern Wisconsin lake is identified as a 70-year-old from Phelps.  John Ziebert was reported missing late Friday night when his fishing boat was found floating unoccupied on Lac Vieux Desert Lake.  His body was recovered early Saturday morning.  Phelps was not found wearing a life jacket and authorities remind people they should always wear a life jacket while on the water.

SHOTS FIRED AT EAU CLAIRE TRAILER PARK

One person is injured after shots were fired in Eau Claire.  Right now, we know that police responded last night to a report on Revere Street at Oak Ridge Valley, known as Shawtown Trailer Park. Details are expected later today. Authorities say the victim was targeted and the investigation is ongoing.

HELP FLOODS IN AFTER FLORENCE

 The storm that was Hurricane Florence is only a tropical depression now, but it’s expected to pour out more than three feet of rain before it leaves the Carolinas. The National Hurricane Center says the storm will continue to spread catastrophic and historic flooding for days. Florence is already blamed for at least 17 deaths.
