Local Skiers Set to Fly High

The Flying Eagles Ski Club will host their 89th Annual Invitational on February 20 and 21, 2021 at the Mt. Washington Ski  Complex and Silver Mine Hill.  The tournament is set to start at 12:00 PM on Saturday after  the opening ceremonies. A Nordic Combined race with 7, 15,  and 30 meter hills will be held immediately following the ski  jumping in the afternoon with awards to follow. The Junior  National Qualifier for Nordic Combined for the 55 meter class

Readin’ ‘Ritin’ and Reopening

The CDC will announce guidelines today on reopening schools in the U.S.  The guidelines are expected to recommend protective masks, social distancing, proper hygiene and building ventilation, and could also address whether teachers need vaccinations.  President Biden has vowed to reopen schools within his first 100 days in office.  He has also proposed 130-billion dollars for school reopening’s in his COVID relief bill.

Search Continues

The search for a missing Barron County man continues. The sheriff’s department says a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources aerial search couldn’t locate 22-year-old Ben Jacobson’s missing truck. Police say Jacobson was last seen Monday and didn’t show up for work Tuesday.

Open Trails, Temps Cold

It may be too cold this weekend to go snowmobiling, but the trails around Eau Claire County are open for the season. You may have been paging through the The Leader-Telegram and read that the 181-mile network of trails opened Wednesday. The National Weather Service says temperatures will feel like 30-and-40-below with bitter cold wind chills expected all the way through Tuesday morning.

According to personal finance experts at The Ascent, Des Moines, Iowa, residents’ income to expense ratio is the best on the list. St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota follow. The report says Green Bay residents work in unusually high numbers in fishing, forestry, farming, and production industries.

Family Members Face No Charges

Prosecutors in Oshkosh are not charging the mother and brother of the teenager suspected of gunning down another teen at the Fox River Mall late last month. The D.A. yesterday said no charges are being filed at this time against Shirina Willis and her son Ralph Ellis. Police arrested them for lying about shooting suspect Dezman Ellis’ whereabouts during this month’s manhunt for him. The D.A. is not offering a reason as to why there will be no charges.
