It’s Cold!…How Cold Is It?

The Chippewa Valley is not done with the dangerous cold just yet. The National Weather Service is leaving Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, and the rest of western Wisconsin under a wind chill warning until 10 a.m. this morning. Forecasters say wind chills could hit 40-below. That’s cold enough to cause frostbite in as little as 10 minutes. Local forecast here.

Police Push for Added Charges in Weekend Shooting

Eau Claire police are asking prosecutors to add homicide charges to the list for last week’s deadly shooting. Police want the case against Selwyn Smith upgraded. Originally, police arrested Smith on a weapons charge. Investigators are not saying just what happened, but do say Smith shot a man he knew at a house in the 500-block of Dodge Street around Friday afternoon.

Wolf Harvest Set at 200

Hunters and trappers in Wisconsin will be able to take 200 wolves this month. The state’s Department of Natural Resources on Friday set the harvest numbers. This is the first year for a wolf hunt in Wisconsin since the gray wolf was taken off of the endangered species list. DNR will meet today to talk about when wolf season will begin.

WI Coronavirus Cases Continue Trend Down

Wisconsin’s coronavirus numbers continue to improve. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported just 503 new positives. Nearly twice as many people in the state have now been vaccinated against the virus than who have ever tested positive. Just 402 people are in the hospital with the virus in Wisconsin. It’s time for voters to head to the polls once again here in Wisconsin. Tomorrow is the spring primary. Voters across the state will narrow the field for state superintendent. There’s also a special election north of Green Bay to replace former state Rep. John Nygren, and a special election in southeast Wisconsin to replace former Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald.

Wisconsin is closing-in on new milestone numbers for coronavirus vaccinations. The state’s Department of Health Services says nearly 250-thousand people in the state have been fully vaccinated. Nearly a million people in the state have gotten at least one dose. Most of the people who’ve gotten a shot are over 65, but most people who’ve been fully vaccinated are younger. Governor Tony Evers says there’s a chance his legal marijuana proposal will become law. The governor was a guest on UPFRONT on Milwaukee TV yesterday. He said he is not pessimistic about his chances for the proposal to become law. Republican lawmakers have said there could be a conversation about medical marijauana, but they are not interested in full legalization. Madison’s Air National Guard unit is taking to the skies once again. The 115th Fighter Wing will be running nighttime training flights this week. That means folks in and around Madison could hear the jets at night. It was back in December that a pilot from the 115th died in a nighttime training flight after a crash in Michigan’s upper peninsula.

Protesters in Kenosha are talking about race and Kyle Rittenhouse’s case. A group of protesters laid on the courthouse steps in Kenosha yesterday, demanding that the judge in Rittenhouse’s case step down. They are upset that the judge didn’t send Rittenhouse back to jail. The group says had a person of color not given the court their real address, they would most certainly be locked-up.
