Remains Of WW2 Sailor Killed At Pearl Harbor Return Home

A sailor who died at Pearl Harbor during World War Two is finally home in Wisconsin.  The remains of Machinist Mate First Class Harold Carney went unidentified for decades, until new DNA profiling technology was used to identify hundreds of those killed in the attack.  Carney’s remains were brought home to Benton, in Lafayette County on Saturday.  WMTV says the local town folks lined the streets to welcome him back.

2022 Political Season Kicks Off

The 2022 political season is getting underway.  WKOW says the Republican National Committee opened its first field office in LaCrosse on Saturday.  An RNC spokesperson called Wisconsin’s third congressional district “a top five race in the country for us.”  In Madison, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin kicked off its election efforts yesterday with an event to organize volunteers for canvassing neighborhoods ahead of next year’s midterms.

New Bill Would Allow For Third-Party Solar

A new law under consideration would allow Wisconsin utility users to lease their rooftop solar panels.  WPR says Wisconsin is the only state where third-party solar ownership is blocked.  A new proposal would clarify that utility customers do not need to own their rooftop installations, and allow for “third-party solar,” in which the company that installs the panels either leases them to the customer or sells the power to the property owner.  The bill co-sponsored by two Republican lawmakers could be introduced this fall.

WI DHS Releases Coronavirus Numbers

The coronavirus has now infected more than 800-thousand Wisconsinites.  The Department of Health Services reported more than 802-thousand COVID-19 cases since the pandemic first struck the state early last year.  The death toll from the virus is 85-hundred-80.  The state passed 700-thousand cases on September 19th. Flags to Be Lowered in Honor of WI Sailor

Governor Tony Evers has ordered flags across the state to fly at half-staff Monday to honor a Wisconsin sailor who was killed in the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.  The remains of Navy Hospital Apprentice 1st Class Keefe R. Connolly of Markeson were identified earlier this year.  He died aboard the U.S.S. Oklahoma in the attack that drew the U.S. into World War Two.  Keefe Connolly was 23 years old.

Second Juror Released in Rittenhouse Trial

An issue with her pregnancy is prompting the dismissal of a juror seated for the Kyle Rittenhouse murder trial.  She is the second juror released in the last two days.  A juror was removed yesterday for telling a deputy an inappropriate joke connected to the trial.  There are now 18 jurors hearing testimony and 12 will be selected for deliberations.

Ho-Chunk Flag Flies On Campus

For the first time in school history UW-Madison is flying the Ho-Chunk Nation flag on campus.  The flag was raised this morning above Bascom Hall.  A university spokesperson says it is all part of the ongoing commitment to educate people about the tribal nation and recognize the ancestral home of the Ho-Chunk Nation.

Tribute to our Troops Tree Planned

Governor Evers is asking members of the military community to contribute ornaments for this year’s Tribute To Our Troops holiday tree.  The tree will be displayed at the executive residence in Maple Grove.  Families of military members need to send the holiday ornament dedicated to their loved one by Friday, November 26th.  Ornaments can be sent to Mr. Liam Walsh at the Wisconsin National Guard Service Member Support Division, 24-hundred Wright Street, Madison, Wisconsin 53704.
