Election Day in WI

It’s election day in our state. Polling places are opening at 7:00 a.m., operating until 8:00 o’clock tonight.  A valid ID such as a driver’s license, state-issued ID card, or passport is required to vote.  Registration is available at polling places and absentee ballots can still be returned in-person today.  To view races on the ballot for your area search my-vote-dot-W-I-dot-gov. Carbon Monoxide May Be Cause of Cabin Death

Officials in Juneau County say carbon monoxide poisoning may be behind the death of a man inside a cabin in the town of Armenia last week.  Authorities say 36-year-old Joseph Gudella, of Bloomingdale, Illinois, was found deceased at the property last Monday.  A man now identified as 36-year-old Richard Griffith, of West Chicago, Illinois, was also found unconscious and taken by MedFlight to a hospital in the region for care.  Officials with Batavia, Illinois police have confirmed that Gudella was

New Architecture Builds Controversy

The plan to tear down three buildings on Capitol Square in Madison to make way for a new Wisconsin History Center is drawing criticism from some.  Two of the buildings on North Carroll Street are over one-hundred years old and will be razed as part of the construction plan.  Retired architect and historian Kevin Pomeroy says the new, modern building design will result in the square losing some of its personality and historic look.  Wisconsin Historical Society CEO Christian Overland says he thinks the

Parking Program Moves Forward in Chippewa

The City of Chippewa Falls is changing its parking program. The Chippewa Falls Police Department posted a message on Facebook, which reads in part, “The City of Chippewa Falls is upgrading its parking program to Passport Parking. Our current parking enforcement program is seriously outdated and must be replaced.” One of the new features includes online payment of fines.  Fines will also be increased to offset the costs of the new system.

Hair that Cares

The Bolton Refuge House and Saylon Seven in Eau Claire are teaming up to help sexual assault survivors. Their campaign, ” Color For A Cause” asks participants to wear a teal-colored hair extension during the month of April to show support for victims of sexual assault. The hair extension is available at Saylon Seven for ten dollars. All proceeds will go to the Bolton Refuge House.

Washburn Co. Continues Decades Long Investigation

Today is the 27-year anniversary of the disappearance of teenager Sara Bushland.  She was last seen in Spooner in 1996 getting off the school bus at her home on County Highway E.  Investigators first thought she was a runaway but the investigation later turned to the possibility of foul play.  The Washburn County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case and wants anyone with information to call them or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Gov. Evers Puts Pen to Paper for Reckless Driving

Wisconsin has a new law aimed at stopping reckless driving.  Today Governor Tony Evers signed a bill that will allow police to impound cars for reckless driving if the owner has reckless driving fines they haven’t paid.  The hope is this law will deter people from driving recklessly in the first place.  This is the first bill signing of Evers’ second term.
