Search Continues in Devils Lake State Park

Republican State Convention Underway

Republicans from across Wisconsin are in La Crosse this weekend for the party’s annual state convention.  GOP leaders and voters are focusing on 2024 after a disappointing election season in 2022 and earlier this year.  Democratic Governor Tony Evers won reelection last November and liberal Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Janet Protasiewicz won the race a state supreme court seat this past April.  Republicans are hoping to unseat President Biden next year and find a candidate who can beat Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin.

World Naked Bike Ride Returns to Madison

Fill the Tank, Empty the Wallet

Wisconsin gas prices are down a penny.  Triple-A reports the statewide average fell one cent Friday, to three-54 a gallon for regular.  That’s two cents lower than last week but 20 cents higher than a month ago.  On the other hand, Friday’s three-54 a gallon average is a dollar-36 lower than it was in mid-June last year.

Woman Headed for Trial After Dunn Co. Home Invasion

The Eau Claire woman accused in a Dunn County home invasion is headed for trial. A judge yesterday said there is enough evidence against 21-year-old Megan Dehate to take the case forward. She’s accused of forcing her way into a home in the Town of Dunn last week. The sheriff says she hit the man who lives there in the head with a chunk of metal. Investigators say Dehate was likely high at the time.

Plane Crash Victims Identified

We now know who died in this week’s small plane crash in Watertown.  Authorities yesterday said a 73-year-old grandfather and his eight-year-old grandson died in the crash Wednesday morning. No one is yet saying what brought the plane down near Brandt Quirk Park. Both the FAA and the NTSB are investigating. Though the FAA yesterday said the plane was supposed to go from Watertown to Manitowish Waters. Watertown Police say Brandt Quirk Park will remain closed through the weekend so
