UWEC Names New Athletic Director

Jason Verdugo is the new athletic director at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The school introduced him yesterday. Verdugo was previously the AD and baseball coach at Hamline University in Minnesota. He replaces Dan Schumacher, who retired at the end of spring semester. Verdugo says his goal is to eventually become a top 10 Learfield cup school.

Dane County Approves Sanctuary Status

Am Fam Field Management Member Resigns

The board that manages American Family Field has lost another member. Karen Makoutz resigned on Wednesday. She had been with the Southeast Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District since it was first created back in 1995. She did not say why she is stepping down, but her resignation came after she voted against the district’s new spending plan. Motorcycle Crash Under Investigation

The Wisconsin State Patrol responded to a one vehicle motorcycle crash at the bottom of the  westbound on ramp from Highway 93 to Interstate 94. Upon arrival on scene of the crash a lone  occupant from the motorcycle was located with life threating injuries. First aid and life safety  measures were provided to the victim of the crash. Harm Reduction Vending Machine Offered in EC

In a new approach to distribute life-saving harm reduction tools in Eau Claire County, two local agencies have partnered to install a vending machine that will distribute free Narcan and fentanyl test strips. A fire remains under investigation in Marshfield. On June 14th 2023, Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched for flames coming from a trailer home at N Peach Avenue. Drunken Threats Lead to Fine

A Minneapolis man is looking at a 15 hundred dollar fine after he drunkenly called 911 and threatened to kill the family of the teenager who killed Lily Peters. Chippewa Falls Police say Herbert Badalich from St. Paul called one week after Peters’ death last year, and made the threats. He said he was frustrated and mad about the case. Deadly Plane Crash in Watertown

Two people are dead after a small plane went down in Watertown. It happened yesterday morning at Brandt-Quirk Park, which is near Watertown’s small airport. No one is saying what brought the plane down, though the FAA is investigating. The NTSB yesterday said the plane was a Mooney M20R, which can seat four people. Investigators say just two people were on board, both of them died.
