The Big Ten Now Has Eighteen

The Big Ten continues to get bigger. Big Ten universities on Friday voted to accept Washington and Oregon into the conference next year. The move comes after the Big Ten accepted USC and UCLA last year. Both Washington and Oregon are fleeing the Pac-12, which has all but dissolved as a conference. The decision now means the Big Ten will have 18 schools, including four on the west coast.

Justin Micheal Ausman, 43 years of age, from Barron has been arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol Spooner Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 6th offense. Alaska Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing in WI

An Alaska Airlines plane made an emergency landing at Dane County Regional Airport Saturday night. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said the Alaska Airlines Flight 367 made a precautionary landing around 8:50 p.m. after an indicator light in the cockpit indicated a possible wheel fire. An airport spokesperson said the plane landed safely and all the passengers got off. The flight had taken off from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, bound for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Pokegema Lake Accident Remains Under Investigation

Justin Vue Recovered From Chippewa River

After searching the waters for a missing tuber, we now have an update. At approximately 9:00pm, water operations on the Chippewa River concluded with the successful recovery of Justin Vue. The operations consisted of systematic shoreline and water searches utilizing side scan sonar, thermal imaging cameras, drones, and numerous volunteers. Special Session Could Focus on Child Care

Governor Tony Evers is expected to call a special session of the Legislature on Tuesday.  A number of legislative sources reportedly say the Democratic governor wants to force Republican lawmakers to debate the issue of child care.  Evers pushed for more child care funding in the state budget but the GOP-controlled budget writing committee removed it this past spring.  He said last month that he was considering a special session to pass child care funding.

WEC Updates Voter Registration Lists

The Wisconsin Elections Commission has deactivated more than 100-thousand voter records.  WEC Administrator Meagan Wolfe said on Friday the over 108-thousand people’s records were deactivated because they haven’t voted in the past four years and they didn’t respond to the agency about their voter status.  Wolfe said the deactivations are required by state law and reflect a combination of voters who have moved to new addresses without re-registering, voters who’ve died, those who asked to have their registrations deactivated, and

UW Health Offers Free Clinic for Student Athletes

UW Health will offer a free high school sports clinic next week. The clinic next Wednesday evening will provide high school athletes who don’t have health insurance the medical clearance they need to compete.  The clinic will be at Access Community Health Center at 2202 South Park Street in Madison and screening times will be based on students’ last names.
