Gray Wolf Removed from Endangered Species List

Regulators placed the wolf on the list years ago to protect dwindling numbers, but packs have rebounded since. Millions Stolen In Campaign Cash

The FBI is looking for the hackers who Wisconsin Republicans say stole over two million-dollars in campaign cash. The money was supposed to be for President Trump’s re-election in the state. Wisconsin Republican Chairman Andrew Hitt yesterday said hackers used a phishing scam to get access to accounts, then took the money out of those accounts. In all, two-point-three million-dollars were taken. Hitt says he noticed the money was taken last week.

WI National Guard Called for Election Duty

Attorney General Josh Kaul is promising to drop the hammer on anyone who tries to intimidate voters next week. Kaul yesterday said the state’s Department of Justice will ‘vigorously prosecute’ anyone who tries to influence the election through threats or violence. Kaul is not saying if there are specific threats or specific groups that he is targeting. Gov. Urges Speed in Court Challenge

The clock is ticking on Governor Tony Evers’ order that limits crowds at bars and restaurants in the state, and he doesn’t want to wait. The governor yesterday asked the Wisconsin Supreme Court to quickly hear the challenge to his order that puts a 25 percent limit on crowds at bars and restaurants in the state. The governor’s office says the order involves immediate, life-threatening public health conditions. An appeals court last Friday put that order on hold.

WI Sees Medical Staff Shortage

Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services say one in five hospitals in the state need doctors and nurses. DHS yesterday said there is a critical staffing shortage at 20-percent of hospitals across the state. Not having enough doctors or nurses on staff means the doctors and nurses who are working are working much more than usual. DHS Deputy Secretary Julie Willems Van Dijk says hospitals are now looking to bring people in from out of state to fill in.

WI Homebuilding Sees Boost

The latest single-housing permit numbers show that homebuilding has significantly increased in quarter three compared to quarter two. The data, compiled by information required to be submitted by municipalities to the Department of Safety and Professional Services, shows 3,825 permits were issued across the state in the third quarter of 2020 compared to 3,155 in the second quarter. “Homebuilding permits are up twenty two percent in quarter three compared to quarter two,” said Wisconsin Builders Association (WBA) Executive Director Brad

WI Ballot Count to Kick Off on Election Day

The ballot count will start right when the polls open on Election Day in Wisconsin.  Under state law, once election officials start the count, they have to continue until every last ballot is tallied.  They must also report some results to the county by 4 p.m. that day.  More than one-and-a-half-million absentee ballots have already been submitted and there are still five days to go.  All ballots turned in by 8 p.m. on November 3rd will be part of the count.

UW Resumes COVID-19 Vaccine Trials

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is resuming their COVID-19 vaccine trial next week.  Thirty-six people got the first of two shots before the trial was put on hold in September after a participant had a serious health issue.  They’re testing the vaccine developed by British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca in partnership with Oxford University.  The university will begin enrolling more patients in the trial starting this coming week.

Cashton Man Facing Multiple Child Abuse Charges

Four more people say a 74-year-old Cashton man sexually abused them as children.  Jerome Leuck has already been arrested on October 14th for multiple counts of child sexual assault including incest for events going back to 2011.  The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the new allegations.  Leuck is currently out on bond and is set to appear in court on November 23rd.
