New COVID-19 Resource Launches in WI

 Wisconsin residents now have a new COVID-19 resource.  The Department of Health Services launched its COVID-19 Vaccine Provider Map today, which is designed to help people find vaccine distribution sites.  It will also show where vaccines are being sent in the state.  More information can be found by searching for the COVID Vaccine Provider Map on the Department of Public Health website. When it comes to our daily snapshot, there are 656 new COVID-19 cases being reported in the state today.

Price to Fill Up, Goes Up

Gas prices continue to climb across the Badger State.  Triple-A says the average price at the pump today is 2.62 for a gallon of regular gas.  That’s a dime higher than last Friday and nearly 40-cents higher a gallon than a month ago.  The national average is two-69 a gallon.

Investigation Continues into Death of Infant in Dunn Co.

It was on February 19th approximately 11:36 pm, when the Menomonie Police Department (MPD) responded to 2421 4th Avenue North for a report of a disorderly male. When officers arrived, they encountered an adult male at the door and were directed to a six-week-old male infant that was pulse-less and notbreathing inside of an apartment. Buffalo Co. Continues Vaccination Efforts

Buffalo County Public Health announced that 52.6% of the 65 and older population in the county has received at least 1 dose of the COVID-19 Vaccine, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/covid-19/vaccine-data.htm) Beginning March 1, new groups will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. The newly eligible groups include the following in priority order: Education and child care staff Individuals enrolled in Medicaid long-term care programs Some public-facing essential workers Non-frontline essential health care personnel Facility staff

Plans Heat Up for Cinder City Development

Plans are moving forward for a new housing development in Altoona. The City Plan Commission voted to approve a first draft of the subdivision set to go up near Lake Road and Moonlight Bay Drive. The plan calls for 36-new single-family townhomes. The final plans are set to be approved in mid-March.

The University of Wisconsin athletics department is pausing all team activities on the women’s volleyball team because of positive COVID cases among the players. In a news release, the school says they’ll hold off for at least 14 days until cases clear.  Upcoming matches against the University of Nebraska and the University of Iowa have been postponed.

Local Firefighter Continues Road to Recovery

It is good news for Cornell’s wounded firefighter. The city’s fire chief says firefighter Justin Fredrickson is improving after his latest surgery. Fredrickson was rushed to the hospital last Friday after a gun went off while he was fighting a fire, and the bullet hit him in the stomach. More Charges Added for Local Woman

The woman already in prison for stealing from a local animal shelter is looking at more time for stealing from the government. Nicolle Wilson this week pleaded no contest to charges that she cashed-in on fake Paycheck Protection loans. Wilson is already serving five years for stealing 71-thousand dollars from the Eau Claire County Humane Association. No one is saying just how much she got in her PPP scam.
