Wisconsin lawmakers are looking to expand school choice, at least for next year. Republicans at the Capitol are pushing four plans that would all expand access to school choice programs in the state. Election Managers Plan Voter Connections

Wisconsin’s election managers are not going to purge the state’s voting rolls without an order from the state’s Supreme Court. But they are going to reach out to missing voters more often. The Wisconsin Elections Commission yesterday voted to contact some of the 230-thousand voters who have not voted in years, but remain registered in the state. The plan is to send them a letter every 18 months or so, just to see if they have moved or changed their voter registration.

Brewers Swing for Fan Fences

 The city of Milwaukee isn’t ready to say just how many fans can return to American Family Field this spring. The city’s health department hosted a walk through at the ballpark last Friday. The Brewers want 35-percent of fans in the stands, but the city has not said just how many fans it is considering. Soft Ground Affects Local Trails

The Eau Claire County Parks & Forest Department announces that all single-track mountain bike/snowshoe (named) trails at Lowes Creek County Park are closed to all uses due to soft ground. Soft ground makes the soil more prone to erosion with continued use at this time. The single-track bike trails are the narrower (named) trails that include snowshoe trails, mountain bike, and hiking trails (other than the ski trails). EC Plans Spring Cemetery Clean-Up

The City of Eau Claire Cemeteries staff will be performing their semi-annual clean-up of Eau Claire’s two cemeteries on Monday, March 15th and remind everyone that personal items and fall and winter decorations that they wish to keep should be removed from grave sites on or before March 14, items remaining after that date will be removed by staff. Chetek Man Arrested After Search Warrant Executed

On Tuesday March 2, 2021 at 9:05am the Barron County Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at 558 22 ½ Street, Chetek. Taken into custody was Jarel Flory, 32 of this address. Jarel is being held in the Barron County Jail on Possession of Child Pornography charges and is awaiting formal charges by the Barron County District Attorney’s Office later this week. WI Daily Coronavirus Count Adds 300+

Bill Tackles Sports and Gender

Governor Tony Evers is sharing a message with Wisconsin’s transgender kids.  The governor tweeted his message today after a bill banning transgender athletes from participating in girls and women’s sports was introduced by Republicans in the legislature.  In response, the governor told transgender young people that he sees them, they are welcome, they are wanted and they belong.  If it’s passed Governor Evers is expected to veto the bill.

Read Across America Day Illustrates Challenges

It is Read Across America Day, which celebrates books and reading, but also exposes the challenges of low literacy across the country.  Nearly 14-percent of the country’s adult population can’t read well enough to fill out a job application.  Wisconsin has the seventh best literacy rate in the country at 92-point-7-percent, but there are areas needing improvement.  The U.S. Department of Education says there is still a large graduation rate gap between Caucasian and Black students in Wisconsin that needs to be closed.  The

Suit Up for Packers Pro Shop
