REGIS STUDENT WON’T RETURN

The student who made a threat at Eau Claire’s Regis High School isn’t being allowed to return to class. The school yesterday said it indefinitely suspended the student. Regis school leaders yesterday sent a message to parents that says there is no threat at the school, and students should feel safe to go to class. Police are still looking to see if the student’s threat was credible.

EC CALL CENTER TO CLOSE

As many as 50 people in Eau Claire will soon be without a job. Safelite, the glass repair company, yesterday said it is closing its call center in downtown Eau Claire. Safelite says the building in Eau Claire can’t meet its future needs. The jobs are being sent to other call centers across the country. Safelite plans to close the doors in two weeks.

FOOD PANTRY REMINDS HUNTERS ABOUT DEER DONATION

Eau Claire’s food bank is asking deer hunters to keep them in mind this year. Officials at Feed My People yesterday asked for venison donations. Feed My People is clear, you have to take their deer to a processor or give through DNR’s donation program. The food bank’s Suzanne Becker says any kind of meat is always in demand, and people will jump at the chance to take some fresh venison home with them.

Chippewa Falls Police say a drunk driving suspect is looking at extra charges for using hand-painted, fake license plates made on the backside of a Hamm’s beer box. Officers discovered the fake plates only after running them last Friday, and realizing they didn’t match the suspect’s vehicle.

WI HONORS ARMY RANGER

A U.S. Army Ranger killed in action in Somalia is being honored in Portage.  Governor Tony Evers sign legislation yesterday to name a stretch of Highway 33 between Portage and Baraboo after Staff Sergeant Daniel Busch.  Busch was a ranger who was killed when his helicopter was shot down in Mogadishu in 1993.  He was 25-years-old and left behind a wife and a son.

DNR URGES HUNTERS TO TAKE FERAL PIGS

The DNR wants deer hunters to help control the feral pig population.  Officials today are asking hunters to kill the pigs whenever possible and report it on the DNR website.  Feral pigs can be hunted year-round and there is no bag limit.  Gun deer hunting season begins Saturday and ends December 1st.

WI POLITICAL NOTES: POLL SHOWS TRUMP LEAD; VP PENCE VISITS

A new Marquette Law School poll shows a shift in favor of President Trump regarding impeachment and the election.  The poll of 801 Wisconsin registered voters released today shows Trump holding a small lead over each of the top four Democratic candidates in head-to-head matchups.  In the previous poll three of the Democrats held small leads over the president.  Last month 44-percent of Wisconsin voters polled favored impeachment and removal from office while that has dropped to 40-percent this month.  VP Pence Talking Manufacturing

CADOTT MAN ACCUSED OF ASSAULT

A Cadott man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman while she slept.  A criminal complaint says the victim told police she recently woke up and found Devyn McCormick assaulting her.  McCormick claims the sex was consensual.  He was charged Tuesday with second-degree sexual assault.

STATE BUDGET TO BOOST LOCAL TREATMENT PROGRAMS

Over a million dollars in state budget money is going to nine Wisconsin counties and a tribe to create drug court programs.  Attorney General Josh Haul was in Eau Claire Tuesday where he announced Buffalo, Pepin, and Polk Counties would get a share of one-and-a-half-million dollars for treatment programs.  The courts allow non-violent drug offenders to enter a treatment program rather than spending time in jail.  Eau Claire, Chippewa, and Dunn Counties already have treatment courts.

ANOTHER NAME IN SENATE RACE

Wisconsin State Representative Rob Stafsholt is running against Patty Schachtner for her state Senate seat.  On Tuesday the Republican from New Richmond became the second person to announce they’re running against Schachtner in 2020.  Somerset business owner Cherie Link will run against Stafsholt in the Republican primary.  Election Day is next November 3rd.
