WI Daily Coronavirus Snapshot

Wisconsin Health officials say there are over 98-hundred active coronavirus cases statewide.  That includes the 733 new cases confirmed today.  The new cases push the overall total to nearly 558-thousand.  There were 18 deaths added to the toll today which stands at more than six-thousand-200. CLICK HERE FOR MORE FROM WI DHS

WI DHS to Launch COVID-19 Vaccine Registry

Wisconsin is launching a COVID-19 vaccine registry.  The Department of Health Services today says the registry will launch on March 1st.  It will allow people to find out when they can schedule an appointment to get a vaccine or be put on a waiting list for one.  Yesterday Wisconsin passed the one million mark of vaccine doses administered. Wisconsin Badger fans are excited with word today that fans will be invited back to Camp Randall for the 2021 football season.  Athletic Director Barry Alvarez says they’re not sure how many people will be allowed back into the stadium but they look forward to hearing the cheers from real fans in the stands.  Alvarez says season ticket information will be made available soon.

Wisconsin “Sturgeon General” Arrested After Supplying $20K In Illegal Caviar To Colleagues A Wisconsin wildlife official is facing charges for supplying around 20-thousand-dollars in illegal caviar to his colleagues.  Ryan Koenigs has earned the nickname the “sturgeon general” for his expertise on the threatened fish.  But he’s been funneling their eggs meant for research purposes to other Department of Natural Resource employees.  Fisheries supervisor Kendall Kamke reportedly said the staff split up the caviar among themselves and “had a good old time with

State Grant Money Heats Up Local Business Project

The Village of Hixton is receiving a $233,000 state grant to assist in the construction of a new commercial building located in downtown Hixton. The Community Development Investment (CDI) Grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) will support the demolition of a condemned building and construction of a new shop and showroom for Sampson Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. The second round of COVID-19 stimulus payments are on their way out to Wisconsin residents. State consumer protection director Tricia Collins says for most people, those payments should be coming through direct deposit, so long as your bank account information didn’t change between last year and this year. Garage Fires Under Investigation

Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused a fire in Rice Lake that destroyed two garages early this morning. The Rice Lake Fire Department says it happened around 1:30 a.m. in town. They say the garages were completely engulfed in flames when they arrived on the scene. No one was hurt.

Deadly Fire in Buffalo Co.

A man is dead after a building fire that shut down Highway-35 for several hours in Buffalo County. The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department says the man and another person escaped the home, but the man soon had a medical emergency and died. They say it’s unclear if the medical emergency was related to the fire. The building was a total loss.

Skatepark Plans Roll On

The Eau Claire Skaters Association receives a ten-thousand-dollar grant from the Pablo Foundation to build a new skatepark. The association posted to Facebook saying the donation has pushed their overall fundraising beyond it’s 75-thousand-dollar goal. They say they’ll work with the city to move forward on plans for the new park.

Man Sentenced in Altoona Robbery

One of three young men who robbed an Altoona man at knife point will not spend any more time behind bars. A judge yesterday sentenced Izaya Sopiarz to three years’ probation for the armed robbery last summer. Altoona Police say Sopiarz stole the man’s debit card.
