Post Office Stamps Out Mail Trucks in Oshkosh

The Post Office’s new mail trucks will not be made in Wisconsin. Oshkosh Defense yesterday said they will make the new trucks in South Carolina. Oshkosh Defense President John Bryant says the decision to build the trucks in Spartanburg, South Carolina came after a look at the company’s supply chain and worker needs. Oshkosh has said the contract to make the new mail trucks will mean one-thousand new jobs.

Deadly Motorcycle Crash in Taylor Co.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a crash. It was on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at approximately 12:10 p.m., the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a motorcycle accident with an unresponsive male who wasn’t breathing  and was lying in the ditch approximately a quarter mile south of State Highway 64 on County Road E in the Town of Hammel, Taylor County. The caller further indicated it appeared the accident occurred sometime during the night.

Roadside Threat Under Investigation

On June 22, 2021, at 10:45am, the Sawyer County Communications Center received a 911 call from a woman who was hiking with a group of others along Peterson Road in the Town of Lenroot. The caller reported a male driving a white car had pulled up to them asking to borrow money. When told they didn’t have any money, the subject pulled out a gun and threaten harm. Age Could Downshift for WI Drivers

Governor Tony Evers will consider a bill that changes the age young Wisconsin drivers can get their learner’s permit.  The bill passed today would allow instructional permits at age 15 which is six months earlier than the current age.  The probationary license age would remain 16.

White House Coming to WI

The times and locations have not yet been released but the White House says President Joe Biden will visit Wisconsin next week.  The president will be joined by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on a visit to Southwest Wisconsin next Tuesday.  Biden is expected to talk about the needs of the agriculture community and rural economies.

WI Coastline Awaits Designation As Marine Sanctuary

The Wisconsin Lake Michigan coastline is expected to be designated as a National Marine Sanctuary.  Governor Tony Evers tweeted today he’s excited that NOAA is advancing the designation of the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary.  If approved the designation would protect 36 shipwrecks off the Wisconsin Coast.

WI Plans for Free COVID-19 Testing in Schools

EC Puts Parking Plans in Overdrive

The Eau Claire City Council will consider a 186-million-dollar infrastructure improvement plan at its meeting tonight. The Eau Claire Capital Improvement Plan proposes a new parking deck near City Hall and a replacement parking ramp at Gibson Street. It also includes a plan to expand public transit, relocate a fire station, and make improvements at Hobbs Arena. The money won’t be made available until January 1st 2022.
