WI School Changes Ticket Policy After Deadly Shooting

School leaders in Beloit are changing their high school ticket policy following last weekend’s deadly shooting outside of Memorial High School.  The school district yesterday said players will now have three tickets to give away to family members, and all students will need to sign-up for tickets before school ends each day as a way to control their crowds.  The change essentially means people cannot walk-up and buy tickets at the school.  There will also be more police officers at

Teen Sentenced to 40 Years

The young man convicted of shooting and killing another teenager at the Fox Valley Mall is heading to prison for four decades.  A judge yesterday sentenced 18-year-old Dezman Ellis to 40 years in prison for last February’s shooting.  Investigators say Ellis shot Jovanni Frausto because of a fight over Ellis’ girlfriend.  The shooting touched-off a statewide manhunt for Ellis who was eventually found in Iowa.  Ellis apologized in court before his sentencing.

Parents Seek Private School Options

It’s a sign of just how many parents in Wisconsin are looking for a change. Parents overwhelmed the state’s website during yesterday’s first day of private school choice enrollment.  The state’s Department of Public Instruction had a note on the website yesterday saying that because of ” high volume,” the website was unavailable.  This is the month for parents to enroll their kids in other schools.  Yesterday was the first day for private school choice, next week will see the beginning of

Trial Continues in MN for Ex-Officers

Testimony is continuing in the federal civil rights trial of three ex-Minneapolis police officers.  The Hennepin County chief medical examiner faced cross examination by the defense yesterday, saying his office became the target of protests in the days after autopsy results for George Floyd were released in 2020, despite the non-political nature of the office.  Doctor Andrew Baker testified that Floyd died when his heart and lungs stopped working because of the restraint by law enforcement.  The three on trial

Big Surprise for the Big Game

A wounded Milwaukee officer is on his way to the Super Bowl.  A Milwaukee radio group (WTMJ) yesterday surprised officer Herbert Davis with a trip to the Super Bowl in Los Angeles.  Davis was shot in the line of duty last week, and left the hospital wearing his Bengals gear.  Davis is a life-long Bengals fan.  He got even more attention after his family released a video of him crying tears of joy after the Bengals punched their ticket to

Winter Project Aims to Improve Summer Conditions

The hope is that this winter’s construction will open-up Lake Altoona come this summer.  Crews have started building a sand trap in the Eau Claire River.  The idea is to dig a massive hole in the river, which will then collect the sand that currently ends-up in the lake.  The hope is to clean the sand trap every year, and keep as much sand as possible out of the lake.

Early Voting Opens for Eau Claire Primary

It’s time to vote once again.  Eau Claire’s clerk announced yesterday that early voting for the February primary is now underway, with voters in Eau Claire able to once again take advantage of drive thru voting.  There is only one race on the ballot this time, for Eau Claire School Board.  Voters will be asked to choose three of the seven candidates who are running.

WI Coronavirus Hospitalizations Continue Downward Trend

Wisconsin’s coronavirus hospitalization count has fallen by more than 400 people in just one week.  The state’s Hospital Association yesterday said fewer than 15-hundred people are in the hospital with the virus.  Just over 300 people are in ICUs with the virus in the state.  The Hospital Association says positive coronavirus tests are also dropping sharply across the state.

Appeal Filed in Waukesha Apt. Building Case

The people who were ordered-out of that Waukesha condo building back in December are appealing the city’s order that they pay to tear the building down.  Owners of the Horizon West building say they cannot afford the cost.  The city of Waukesha evacuated the building back in December after finding damage that inspectors said was serious enough to bring the building down.  Last month Waukesha issued a raze order which means the building must come down, or the city will

The Bronze Fonz is taking a break.  Visit Milwaukee yesterday said crews have removed the Fonz’s statue from the Riverwalk for routine maintenance.  The cleaning and fixing should take about two weeks.  Believe it or not, the Fonz has been on the Riverwalk since 2008.
