Deadly Wreck in Chippewa Co.

Deputies are saying a driver who crossed the centerline was the cause of a deadly crash on Highway 178 over the weekend. It happened yesterday between Chippewa Falls and Jim Falls. The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office says an 85-year-old woman from rural Chippewa Falls died in the crash. Small Plane Crashes into Home in Ashland Co.

A small plane crash that killed two people in northwestern Wisconsin could’ve left damage on the ground as well. The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office says the small plane crashed into a home near Marengo on Saturday. The two people on-board the plane, a 29-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, both died in the crash. No one on the ground was hurt. Local and federal investigators say they are looking for what caused the plane to go down.

WI COVID-19 Related Hospitalizations Dip Below 1k

Wisconsin’s coronavirus hospitalizations are under one thousand for the first time in months. The state’s Hospital Association yesterday said there are 972 people in the hospital with the virus. That’s down by over 100 people in just the last week alone. The Hospital Association says there are 310 people in the ICU with the virus. The Hospital Association does not track how many people are hospitalized with the virus, and how many people are hospitalized because of it.

Judge Halts the Hunt

Wisconsin’s wolf hunt may not happen this year. As expected, a Dane County judge on Friday issued an order that halts the hunt until the lawsuits surrounding it can be heard. Environmentalists and activists have been fighting Wisconsin’s wolf hunt since it was first scheduled late last year. This year’s hunt is supposed to begin in about three weeks. Election Audit Draws Different Reactions

As you might imagine, Republicans and Democrats at the Wisconsin Capitol have two entirely different sets of take-aways from the latest audit into the 2020 election. The Legislative Audit Bureau released its audit on Friday. Democrats say it shows that the 2020 vote was safe and secure, but Republicans say the audit found some serious questions about absentee voting and whether election managers followed the law. K9 Officer Returns Home After Injury

A wounded Kenosha County police dog is heading home after being shot. Riggs, the sheriff’s K9, was hit in the head with a bullet during a shooting last week. Veterinarians say it’s a miracle the dog survived, the bullet essentially went around his skull. There is a scar and some shaved fur, but other than that Riggs is happy and healthy. The sheriff’s department is holding-out hope that he will be able to return to work at some point.

WI Health Managers Prep for Booster Shots

Wisconsin’s public health managers are ready to offer more booster shots. The state’s Department of Health Services on Friday said it will begin offering Johnson & Johnson and Moderna boosters. The FDA and CDC both recently approved the company’s vaccines for use as booster shots. Culver’s usually sells about 30 cheeseburgers-an-hour, but the company says it sold 94 of its Curderburgers per-hour earlier this month. Culver’s yesterday said, in all, they sold 136 thousand Curderburgers on National Cheese Curd Day. Many stores sold-out before lunch. Culver’s originally advertised the burger, which featured a huge golden-fried cheese curd on top, as an April Fool’s prank, but made it a one day reality after fans begged for it.

Deadly Crash Under Investigation in Chippewa Co.

A head on collision turns deadly in Chippewa County. A vehicle southbound on Hwy 178 near 151st street was struck head-on by a northbound vehicle. Initial on-scene evidence shows the northbound vehicle failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and drifted into the path of the southbound vehicle. The driver of the southbound vehicle was pronounced deceased on scene. Dialing Up Changes for WI Phones

 Many Wisconsin residents are changing the way they dial phone numbers.  Starting today, residents with the two-six-two, four-one-four, six-zero-eight and nine-two-zero area codes have to use all ten digits when making local calls.   Those with five-four-three and seven-one-five area codes were already required to use all ten numbers.  The change comes as the Federal Communications Commission launches the number nine-eight-eight as a new national suicide and mental health helpline.
