La Crosse Bans Conversion Therapy

Add La Crosse to the list of cities in Wisconsin that have banned conversion therapy. Mayor Mitch Reynolds yesterday said he signed the new ordinance on Monday, before a group led by two former city council members urged him to veto the idea. That group said the ban will stop parents from making the decisions they feel is best for their kids. City leaders say the ban will stop what they call an abusive practice against gays and lesbians.

Power Grid Alert Stretches Across Midwest

There is an alert about power generation across the Midwest today. MISO, the Midcontinent Independent System Operators, issued the alert yesterday ahead of today’s scorching temperatures and predicted storms. MISO says ‘forced generation outages,’ along with high temperatures and congestion on the grid could all cause problems. MISO covers all or parts of 15 states, including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, and Michigan.

Titletown Sees Cruise Ship Docking

It’s a first for Green Bay this week. The city says its first Great Lakes cruise ship will dock tomorrow. The Ocean Navigator will stop in Green Bay as part of its 10-day tour. Madison Police Look For Man Carrying Sword

 Madison police arrest a man they say was seen carrying a large sword around the city.  Police say they found Howard Smith with a sword near the Amazon Distribution Center on Milwaukee Street last night.  Police say Smith said he was looking for someone in the area.  He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct while armed and bail jumping.

Search Continues in MKE River

Rescuers in Milwaukee say three people are missing after being sucked into a drainage tunnel during yesterday’s storms. Firefighters say an 11-year-old boy fell into the KK River on the city’s south side yesterday evening. They say two men jumped-in to save him, but all three were washed down river. The river was rushing because of yesterday’s strong thunderstorms. The search for the three was called-off last night because of the dark. Firefighters are expected back out on the water

Crews Battel Blaze at WI Business

It took 70 firefighters and first responders to deal with yesterday’s fire at a manufacturing plant near Waupaca. The first 911 call came from the Festive Foods plant in Belmont at about 9 a.m. Crews fought the fire for hours. There are no reports of any serious injuries, or any word as to what started the fire.

PFAS Regulation Moves Forward

The rules for so-called forever chemicals in Wisconsin are moving forward. The Republican-controlled legislature yesterday signaled that it will allow the state’s Department of Natural Resources to set standards for PFAS chemical pollution in the state. PFAS chemicals come from many places, but are tied to firefighting foam, and there are worries about what the chemicals can do. Wisconsin’s standards are identical to the federal regulations, though they are higher than some in Wisconsin wanted.

Teachers Union Pushes For Pay Bump

Teachers in La Crosse are looking for the max pay increase that the local school district can legally give them. The teachers’ union in La Crosse yesterday asked for the state-maximum four-point-seven percent raise. The school district is offering a two-percent bump. La Crosse Education Association President Jesse Martinez says teachers need more because of the rising price of gas and groceries. State law limits how high teacher raises can go, but this year that cap is much higher because
