OSHKOSH WEST HIGH SCHOOL CLOSED TODAY; LAWMAKERS CALL FOR MENTAL HEALTH FOCUS

Students in every other Oshkosh school are heading back to class, but the kids at Oshkosh West High School will miss another day today.

School leaders say West High School students won’t return to class till tomorrow. The school is still dealing with the aftermath of Tuesday’s officer-involved shooting that came after a student attacked the school’s resource officer. West High School teachers will be in the school today, they’re getting the building ready for students.

On the heels of the incidents this week, we talk laws. There could finally be some movement on gun-related laws at the Wisconsin Capitol. Governor Tony Evers yesterday said there is a need to help students across the state who are struggling with mental health issues. His comments come after two officer-involved shootings at two different high schools this week. Republicans in Madison say they’ve been asking for a focus on mental health for months.

There’s common ground on the idea, but there’s not yet a specific proposal.
