The state DOJ says the Mount Horeb Middle School student killed by police had pointed his pellet rifle at officers before they shot him.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation said in a news release on Saturday that officers directed him to drop his weapon and he would not comply. The student died on the scene after lifesaving measures were deployed. In the release, the DOJ described the weapon as a Ruger 177-caliber pellet rifle. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Friday cited unnamed sources to identify the student as a 14-year-old eighth-grader. The DOJ release did not provide his identity.
