The third week of the Waukesha Christmas Parade trial began with a focus on what Darrell Brooks did after the parade massacre. Prosecutors called a string of witnesses yesterday who spoke to or saw Brooks after police say he sped through the parade. One of the witnesses was the man who let Brooks into his home that night. Tornado’s Added To Final Count

Last week’s tornado count is now seven. The National Weather Service yesterday added three more to the count from last week’s storms in southeast Wisconsin.  All three of the new tornadoes fell in Jefferson County, and all three were EF-0 tornadoes.  Forecasters say all seven twisters produced only minor damage and didn’t cause any injuries.

Costco Plans Move Forward

Plans for Eau Claire’s Costco are moving ahead.  The city’s Plan Commission okayed the designs last night.  The idea is to build the new store on the city’s north side, off Black Avenue.  There aren’t any firm dates, but city leaders hope to open the store next year or in early 2024.

St. Croix Cluckers Confirm Bird Flu

A flock of backyard chickens in St. Croix County is Wisconsin’s latest bird flu case.  The state’s Department of Agriculture confirmed an outbreak last week.  Wisconsin saw nearly three million-birds put down after a bird flu outbreak in the spring.  The case in St. Croix County is the third in the past two months.  The other two were at commercial bird operations in Dunn and Racine counties.

ACLU Tackles Prisoner Votes

The ACLU of Wisconsin says many jails in the state don’t make it easy for prisoners to vote.  The ACLU says just 60 people registered to vote from jail in 2020, and just 50 people actually voted from jail in that election.  Wisconsin law allows people who are in jail to vote, it is convicted felons who are not allowed to vote in the state.  The ACLU says most jails in Wisconsin either have vague voting policies, or no policies at all. WI DNR Looks to Dispose Of PFAS

The state is ready to get rid of 25-thousand gallons of firefighting foam.   Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources yesterday said it will collect, then dispose of, the foam in an attempt to limit PFAS pollution across the state.  Many fire departments are hanging-on to their foam because it would cost them too much to get rid of it.  DNR will use one million-dollars to take that foam off of their hands.  PFAS foam has fallen out of favor with fire

Harley Revs Up For Revamp

Harley-Davidson’s CEO is talking about “repurposing” the company’s Milwaukee headquarters.  CEO Jochen Zeitz told the Milwaukee Business Journal that he is thinking about the Harley campus in terms of remote work vs. on-site work. The Business Journal reported that Harley may look at “a de-emphasis” of the buildings that have been their corporate headquarters since the 1990s.  Harley closed the headquarters at the start of the coronavirus outbreak, and has been slow to bring everyone back into the office.

Barron Co. Standoff Ends Safely

On October 16, 2022, at approximately 6:45 PM, the Cumberland Police Department was advised of an intoxicated disorderly subject located at a residence in the City of Cumberland.
