Interstate Fight Leads to 5th OWI For WI Man

A Janesville man is facing his fifth OWI charged after the Wisconsin State Patrol says he got into a fight on Interstate-39/90.  The State Patrol says troopers were called to an area near Albion Tuesday evening where several people had gotten into a fight on the interstate.  The State Patrol says troopers tried to conduct a sobriety test on a man at the scene but he refused and was arrested.

Man Who Fled to TN Back in WI On House Arrest

A Madison man who fled to Tennessee after a January murder in La Crosse is out of jail on 10 thousand-dollars bond. A judge in La Crosse lowered 35-year-old Karvel Freeman’s bond last week, it was originally set at a half-million dollars. Freeman is accused of gunning down a man at a party back in January. Steven Avery’s new lawyer says there is a third suspect that needs to be questioned in the case against him. Avery’s lawyer filed a new motion yesterday. Chippewa Falls Asks Voters For Hike

Chippewa Falls is the latest city in Wisconsin to ask voters for more money this fall. The city council last night okayed a one-point-three million-dollar tax hike question for the fall ballot. Mayor Greg Hoffman says the tax hike will cost homeowners between 140 and 170 dollars more in taxes this year. The mayor has earmarked the money for new police officers and firefighters, as well as raises for those officers and firefighters currently on the job.

Specifically, Senator Ron Johnson yesterday said he won’t vote for any immigration reforms unless and until the southern border is secure. Johnson says he supports modernizing the country’s immigration laws, but says the Biden Administration must stop the flood of people who are entering this country illegally first. Local Campuses Join WI Tuition Promise Program

UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stout are now part of Wisconsin’s free tuition program. The university yesterday said the western Wisconsin campuses will take part in the Wisconsin Tuition Promise program. That means kids at Eau Claire, Stout, River Falls, and Superior will have a chance to apply for a tuition and fee scholarship.
