Waukesha Deer Farm Sees CWD Outbreak

Several deer at a farm in Waukesha County have been sacrificed after an outbreak of chronic wasting disease there.  The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture confirmed the euthanizing of 20-deer in the herd, eight of which tested positive for the debilitating disease.  The Watertown Daily Times reported on Thursday that the farm operator will receive federal compensation for the loss.  The report says the farm won’t be able to keep and raise deer for the next five years as part of preventive measures

Officer Treated After Getting Dragged By Suspect’s Vehicle

A Madison Police Sergeant is recovering after getting dragged by a suspect’s vehicle. The MPD Sergeant responded to a domestic violence call yesterday morning when he caught up with the suspect and a passenger in a vehicle in a parking lot on East Washington Avenue.  The officer managed to get the passenger in the vehicle to safety but was then dragged around the parking lot before the suspect drove off and has yet to be found and arrested. WI Companies Recall Lard Products

Four Wisconsin companies are issuing voluntary recalls of lard products. These are Class I recalls, initiated based on evidence collected during routine inspections by state inspectors. Evidence shows that the products were not produced under a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) food safety plan. No illnesses have been reported as a result of consuming these products. Kohl’s Blames Inflation For Lower Sales

Kohl’s is blaming inflation for a cut in its financial forecast.  The Wisconsin-based retail chain now projects net sales to decline by up to six-percent.  It also slashed earnings per share expectations by more than half.  Kohl’s says shoppers aren’t going to stores as much and if they do, they’re spending less money each time they go.

Lokken Requests Return of Investigation Items

Larry Lokken wants his stuff back. Lokken, who is serving nine years in prison for stealing over a million-dollars from county taxpayers, asked a judge earlier this month to return the things taken from him during the investigation. Some of those things were taken six years ago. Lokken has about three years left on his sentence, and has yet to repay the county for all of the money he stole.

 Lawyers for the man accused of running down more than 60 people during last year’s Christmas parade in Waukesha want the case against him thrown-out because of a jailhouse search of his cell. Million Dollar Bond Set in Madison Murder

 It’s a million-dollars bond for the suspect in a Madison killing from last month. A judge yesterday ordered 27-year-old Aquille Lowe held on a seven figure bond for July’s shooting death of a man on the city’s north side. Lowe is accused of shooting and killing a man over a stolen car. Lowe fled to Ohio after the shooting, he was arrested there about two weeks ago.
