Prosecution Rests in Murder Trial of Former Badger Player

The prosecution has rested in the double-murder trial of a former Badger football player. The D.A.’s office in Janesville yesterday wrapped-up with its witnesses in  Marcus Randle El’s murder trial. He is looking at life in prison for the 2020 shooting deaths of two women. The jury heard from a string of witnesses that said he fled to Chicago after shooting the women. Marijuana Bust Leads to Probation For Teen

An Altoona teen who sped away from police last August with more than a pound of marijuana in his car won’t be spending any time behind bars. A judge in Eau Claire yesterday sentenced 18-year-old Cesar Cruz-Ramirez to two years’ probation. The sentence came as part of a plea deal that saw felony drug charges dropped. Police found a pound-and-a-half of marijuana in Cruz-Ramirez’s car.

Remains Confirmed to Be Missing Tomah Woman

The search for a missing Tomah woman has come to a sad end. The sheriff in Monroe County yesterday said the remains found last week in a rural part of the county are those of Felicia J. Wanna, also known as Felicia Helgeson. She’d been missing since December. No one is yet saying how she died, or when she died.

State of the State Set

We’re going to get an update on the state of Wisconsin tonight. Governor Evers is set to deliver his State of the State speech from the State Capitol. The State of the State speech is one of the governor’s two big speeches to lawmakers, the other will be his budget speech next week. The governor is not yet saying what he is going to speak about. Republicans at the Capitol will have their own address after the governor’s speech tonight.

WI Looks to Offer School Safety Training

Wisconsin’s attorney general is offering schools some safety training. A-G Josh Kaul’s office yesterday announced a new round of Standard Response Protocol, and Standard Reunification Method training. The idea is to help schools learn what to do in an emergency, then help schools reunite kids with their parents afterwards. Kaul says the hope is to make sure that schools across the state have a ‘comprehensive toolkit’ if they ever need it.

CVTC COVID Testing Site Set to Close

Today is the last day for COVID testing at CVTC. Eau Claire City-County Health Department says tests will be available til 6 p.m. this evening. No one is offering a reason for the closure, but the demand for testing is nowhere near what it used to be, and there are other testing clinics that will remain open. The latest COVID report from the state shows low coronavirus levels in Eau Claire County.

The high price of eggs is probably not coming down any time soon.  The Wisconsin Grocers Association says high wholesale prices from major egg companies are responsible for high prices at the state’s grocery stores.  The Grocer’s Association says local grocery stores don’t have much profit margin on eggs, so there is little room for them to lower prices after they pay wholesalers.

Road Project In Menomonie Will “B” Delayed
