Suspect In Kidnapping Held on Million Dollars Bond

The suspect in last weekend’s kidnapping of a 15-year-old in Chippewa County is being held on a million-dollars bond. A judge yesterday ordered 22-year-old Trevor Blackburn held in the Chippewa County Jail. Prosecutors haven’t yet filed formal charges. The sheriff’s office is expecting kidnapping and sexual assault charges in the case. Deputies say Blackburn drove from Tennessee to Holcombe to snatch her after she stopped talking to him online.

Guilty Plea In Case Of Murdered WI Brothers

 The last case against the Missouri man who killed two Shawano County brothers is over.  Garland ‘Joey’ Nelson pleaded guilty yesterday to federal mail fraud charges in connection to the cattle rustling case that ended with Nicholas and Justin Diemel’s death back in 2019. Nelson pleaded guilty last week to the brothers’ murders, he is serving a life sentence for that crime. Jury Selected, Opening Statements Planned in Waukesha Christmas Parade Trial

Opening statements will start tomorrow in the Waukesha Christmas Parade trial. They picked a jury yesterday despite another day full of disruptions from Darrell Brooks Jr. He once again spent most of the day in a separate courtroom because of his outbursts and arguments with the judge. Nurse Facing Charges For Inappropriate Relationship With Inmate

A nurse at the jail in Sparta is out of a job and facing charges that she had sex with an inmate. Prosecutors filed charges this week against 52-year-old Teresa Fennigkoh. They say she had sexual contact with an inmate at least four times while she examined the man in the Monroe County Jail. She’s also accused of giving him prescription medication without a proper prescription. The inmate says nothing happened, Fennigkoh says any sexual contact was consensual.

Health Care Question On Local Ballot

Dunn County voters will see a ballot question on health care next month. The advisory referendum asks if voters think the federal government should create a new national health insurance program. The question carries no weight, no laws will change based on the vote. Supporters say the idea is to let national leaders know what voters in the Chippewa Valley think. Critics say it’s a political ploy to get more people to vote.

Numbers Show Tourism Rebound

It is the clearest sign yet that Wisconsin is getting over the coronavirus. The Wisconsin Policy Forum yesterday released a report on hotel/motel room taxes across the state. Special Session Wraps Without Discussion

Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature quickly wrapped up today’s special session.  Governor Tony Evers called the special session in an effort to get lawmakers to pass a bill that would give Wisconsin residents the ability to vote on new laws, rather than wait for them to pass through the legislature.  The goal was to repeal Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion ban.  However, with the special session ending with no discussion, the law won’t be passed.

Wisconsin gas prices are now above four dollars a gallon.  According to Triple-A the statewide average is four dollars and three-cents a gallon, up ten-cents from yesterday.  In Madison the average is four-oh-nine a gallon, up 14-cents from yesterday.

Multiple cities in southern Wisconsin are considered some of the best small cities in America.  WalletHub recently ranked every city in the country with a population between 25-thousand and 100-thousand people.  WalletHub ranks Fitchburg and Sun Prairie in the 90th percentile.  Near Milwaukee, Menomonee Falls is the top ranked small city in Wisconsin in the 97th percentile.  WalletHub says the best small city in the country is Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Have You “Hurd?” The Curd Burger Returns

Culvers is bringing back a limited time menu item that started out as a joke.  From October 12th through the 31st customers can get the Culvers CurderBurger, a butterburger topped with a disc of fried cheese.  Culver’s originally released the burger as a joke on April Fool’s Day, but decided to release it for one day only last year.  Now it’ll be available for over two weeks.
