Tensions Continue With License Wait Times

Republican lawmakers in Wisconsin are getting angrier and angrier with the people in charge of professional licenses in the state. State Senator Rob Stafsholt on Wednesday blasted the state’s Department of Safety and Professional Services for ignoring them. WI Coronavirus Cases Low

Wisconsin’s latest coronavirus map is a sea of green. The CDC says most of the state is seeing low coronavirus levels. Milwaukee and the WOW counties are seeing medium levels, but just two counties are seeing high levels. Rusk and Barron counties in western Wisconsin are the only areas of the state in the orange, but that may be because of their low population and not because of a spike in new coronavirus cases.

Main Streets Are a Main Attraction

Over 66-hundred more small businesses and non-profits across Wisconsin are getting Main Street Bounceback grants from the state government.  Today Governor Tony Evers  announced the grants will go to businesses and non-profits in all 72 Wisconsin counties.  Evers says he plans to invest 100-million dollars into the program and help ten-thousand organizations. WI DHS Announces Free Fentanyl Test Strips

Free fentanyl test strips are now available across Wisconsin.  The Wisconsin Department of Health Services now has a tool on its website where you can search places to find the test strips.  The department says drugs mixed with fentanyl are the leading cause of overdose deaths in Wisconsin.

Altoona Lake Draw Down Set to Begin

The Eau Claire County Parks & Forest Department announces that in accordance with state guidelines, the annual 0.7-foot (8.4 inches) winter draw down of Lake Altoona will begin on Monday morning, November 7, 2022. The purpose of the draw down is to minimize damage to property from ice shifting and to also create a larger reservoir capacity in anticipation of spring rains and runoff from melting snow. Madison Kicks Off Guaranteed Income Program

Madison has sent its first 500 dollar guaranteed income checks.  Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway yesterday said 150 low income families are going to get 500 dollars each month for the next year.  The money has no strings attached, so people can spend it on whatever they want.  Rhodes-Conway says the idea is to help low income families by giving them some flexibility.  The guaranteed income program will cost Madison nearly a million-dollars over the next 12 months.

Federal Charges Filed In Case of Former Teacher

There are now federal charges for the Sun Prairie teacher accused of filming middle schoolers in the school bathroom.  Federal prosecutors filed charges yesterday against 34-year-old Matthew Quaglieri.  He was suspended by Sun Prairie Schools last week after police arrested him on child pornography charges.  Investigators say he recorded two students from Prairie View Middle School ‘engaging in sexually explicit conduct.’  Sun Prairie Schools say they are looking into if there are other victims.

WI Sees Rare Autumn Weather

Madison missed the worst of yesterday’s severe weather, but not everyone was as lucky.  The National Weather Service says a tornado touched down at Whitewater’s Willow Brook Public Golf Course yesterday.  There are no reports of any injuries, though there are plenty of tree limbs that are down.  Forecasters will spend part of the day today assessing the damage.  The same line of storms dropped other tornadoes near Milwaukee.  There were no injuries there either.

UPDATE: Second Teenager Dies After Rollover Crash

We have an update on the rollover crash that happened earlier this week in Barron County. The sheriff released the following press release: On late Wednesday night the Barron County Sheriff’s Department was advised that the 15 year oldinvolved in the accident from Monday night that was in Regions Hospital had passed away.
