New Driving Plans Round the Capitol Curve

Two anti-reckless driving plans have cleared their first hurdle at the Wisconsin Capitol. An Assembly panel on Tuesday approved the proposal to increase fines and jail time for reckless drivers, as well as another plan that would make it easier for police to impound the cars of people caught driving recklessly. Suspect Matched in WI Cold Case

Investigators in Racine found their suspect in a 23-year-old murder through a DNA match.  Racine Police yesterday announced an arrest in the 2000 murder of Linda Fields.  She was found strangled to death.  There was DNA evidence at the time, but there weren’t any matches in the state or federal databases. Racine Police say they tracked down the suspect, Lucas Alonso, through a DNA match from his brother and father.  From there, investigators worked backwards to settle on Alonso.  He

3M Announces Local Layoffs

There were more layoffs at 3M in Menomonie than first announced. The company announced back in January that it planned to layoff over twenty workers at the plant. Yesterday, a spokesperson said there were more layoffs coming at the plant. Before the cuts, 3M had over 670 employees in Menomonie. The layoffs are part of a global reduction for 3M. The top Republican in the Wisconsin Assembly says the governor’s plan to help with American Family Field is dead. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos told reporters yesterday that he doesn’t see a path forward for the governor’s proposal to spend nearly 300 million-dollars in state money on repairs at American Family Field. Local Lawmaker Makes Case For Milk

Western Wisconsin’s congressman wants to make it clear that milk comes from animals, not plants. Congressman Derrick Van Orden signed-on to the Dairy Pride Act. That’s the federal plan to classify milk as coming from cows or other animals only. The Badgers are one-and-done at the Big Ten Tournament.  Wisconsin faded in the final minutes of last night’s game against Ohio State, losing 65-57. The loss came after Wisconsin clawed its way back from a 38-16 first half deficit. The loss likely ends any hope for Wisconsin to make the NCAA Tournament, but coach Greg Guard said they will know for sure on Sunday.
