Lawmakers Consider a Plan to Shoot Animals at Airports

Wisconsin lawmakers are considering a plan that’d make it easier to shoot ‘nuisance’ animals at airports in the state. The Senate’s Committee on Natural Resources will hold a hearing today on a proposal that would change some of the state’s hunting laws to allow crews to drive away critters from airport runways. The legislation would make exceptions to Wisconsin’s laws about hunting with a light, firing from the road or parking lot, and driving with a loaded rifle or crossbow.

One of the Republicans who will write Wisconsin’s next state budget says it’s a balancing act. State Senator Howard Marklein this week said the legislature’s budget-writing Joint Committee on Finance is hearing from all sorts of people and groups who want more money from the state. WI State of Emergency Because of Wildfire Risk

A state of emergency is in place in Wisconsin because of the risk for wildfires.  Today Governor Tony Evers  signed an executive order allowing the state to call on additional help to fight fires.  A red flag warning for high fire danger is in effect for all of southern Wisconsin until eight o’clock tonight.  The National Weather Service says Wisconsin is seeing all the right conditions for wildfires with warm temperatures, low humidity, and gusty winds.

Baldwin Announces Bid for Reelection

Democratic U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin is running for reelection.  Baldwin made the announcement today.  She’s seeking her third term in office, and will be one of 20 Democrats in the senate running for reelection in 2024.  Right now no Republicans have said they’re running against her.

Flood Risk on Rise

Chances are increasing for major flooding on the Mississippi River along the Wisconsin/Minnesota border because of melting snow pack.  The National Weather Service says there’s an 80 to 90-percent chance for moderate flooding in Wisconsin and a 30 to 65-percent chance of major flooding in some locations.  Flooding will likely start within the next week.

Wildwood Zoo is excited to announce the arrival of “Willow,” a female red fox. She is a year-old marble morph fox with a beautiful white coat and unique black markings. She was initially kept as a pet and transferred to Wildwood Zoo when her living situation needed to be adjusted. Vandals Damage EC Soccer Field

 City leaders say the damage at Eau Claire’s soccer park could delay soccer season. Police say someone drove through the soccer fields over the weekend, doing donuts and leaving huge tire tracks across the fields.
