 Eau Claire County is going to make Narcan more available. The county board last night approved two plans that will make it easier for people to deal with opioid overdoses. The county is going to spend about 34 thousand-dollars for an extra year’s worth of Narcan and test strips, as well as medical lock boxes. County supervisors also approved a 45 thousand-dollar bid to help run a needle disposal site for the next year.

There’s a new person in charge of the Eau Claire County Board. Supervisors last night elected Nancy Coffey as County Board Chair. She replaces Nick Smiar, who was voted out last week following the sheriff’s report into millions-of-dollars in overspending at the county’s Department of Human Services. Coffey represents the county’s District 10, which covers part of the town of Washington and some of the southern portion of Eau Claire. She did not say if she plans to continue pushing

Wisconsin Republicans want to make sure churches in the state are kept open during the next emergency. State Senator Cory Tomczyk and state Rep. Ty Bodden are proposing a constitutional amendment that would stop public health managers from closing churches. Wisconsin saw its churches closed during the early days of the coronavirus outbreak. The two say all places of worship should be protected from all levels of government. Arizona, Florida, North Dakota, and South Carolina currently have similar no-closing laws. Powerball is worth a billion-dollars. No one won Monday’s drawing, so the jackpot for tonight’s drawing is worth at least a billion-dollars according to lottery officials. It’s been since April since anyone won the jackpot. The lump sum for tonight’s jackpot would be just over 518 million-dollars, before taxes.  Two $200,000 winning tickets were sold for the Monday, July 17 Powerball drawing. The tickets were purchased at Kwik Trip on 806 S. Main St. in West Bend and at Jandu Petroleum on 1101 Lake St. in Algoma. Both tickets added the $1 Power Play option to their Powerball play. The result – two $50,000 winning tickets turned into two $200,000 winning tickets because of the 4X Power Play multiplier. The Rusk County Community Foundation (RCCF) is pleased to announce that it awarded a $1500 grant to support pop-up food pantries in Weyerhaeuser, WI. The pantries will be administered by Feed My People Food Bank (FMP). The need in this part of Wisconsin is great, but few food resources are available.
