Puppy Mill Problems Persist

Wisconsin is on the Humane Society’s Horrible Hundred list for problem puppy mills, but is nowhere near the top.  The Humane Society lists five problem puppy mills in the state.  Missouri leads the nation with 31.  Illinois is also on the list, with one puppy mill.  None of Wisconsin’s other neighboring states have any problem mills, according to the Humane Society.

Crowning The King of the (White) Castle

It is quite a feat to make it to the White Castle Hall of Fame when you don’t have an White Castle anywhere near you. Levi Hunt did just that and local reporter Chris Vetter covered the story. The Police and Fire Commission has announced that a selection has  been made for the next Fire Chief of Eau Claire Fire Department. WI Deputy Hit By Drunk Driver

  A Dane County sheriff’s deputy is in the hospital after being involved in a car crash.  The sheriff’s office says the deputy was hit by a drunk driver this morning on County Highway N just south of Interstate-90.  The deputy suffered non-life threatening injuries.  The sheriff’s office says the suspect drove off but was later found and arrested.  He’s charged with OWI, hit and run, and resisting and obstructing.

Mocktail Event Marks First for WI

The City of Cambridge  is holding an event to promote sobriety.  Tonight is the city’s Mocktail Walk, the first of its kind in Wisconsin.  The city says participants can walk around downtown and sample mocktails from different businesses.  Tickets are sold out.

Dunn County Board asks Legislature for Heritage Hall Renovation Funding

The Dunn County Board of Supervisors Wednesday night adopted a resolution asking the state Legislature to approve funding for a $139-million renovation of the University of Wisconsin-Stout’s Heritage Hall, a 50-year-old academic building that is used by more than 2,000 students.  “…renovation will renew and modernize instructional environments, optimize operational efficiency, and provide state-of-the-art workforce training and services to students, the community, and employers.” The UW Board of Regents ranked the renovation of Heritage Hall as its No. 1 priority

Death of K9 Officer Under Investigation

The sheriff in Monroe County says one of their police dogs died from the heat.  The K9, Kolt, was rushed to the vet last Wednesday, but never recovered and died on Monday.  Forecasters say it was about 80 degrees on Wednesday in Monroe County.  The sheriff’s office isn’t saying just how hot it was in the car where Kolt was riding, or how the dog was left in the heat.  The sheriff’s office says they are investigating, and said one

It’s another sign of warmer days to come. Altoona opened its splash pad yesterday.  Parks and Recreation managers say the pad River Prairie Park will be open from noon til 6 p.m. each day.  The water feature in Eau Claire’s Haymarket Plaza is also open.  The water there is on from 10 a.m. til 11 p.m. each day.

EC Health Department Seeking Dog Bite Information

Eau Claire’s health department is asking for help in finding a dog that bit a woman.  It happened Tuesday evening at the intersection of Speros Lane and Meadow Lane.  The health department says the dog took off after biting the woman.  Public health managers say they need to find the dog to see if it has rabies.  The dog is described as a medium to large mixed breed, mostly brown in color.  The dog’s ears were pointed and had a
