Slender Man Case Back in Court, Request for Release

The last of the two young women in the Slender Man case wants to be released from the mental hospital. Morgan Geyser was in court in Waukesha County on Monday.  Geyser was sentenced to 40 years in the mental hospital after being convicted for the 2014 stabbing attack that nearly killed one of her friends.  She was just 12-years-old at the time.  The other young woman in the case, Anissa Weier, was released back in 2021.  A judge turned down

Job Openings, Retention Trouble

The state of Wisconsin is struggling to hire people, and having an even harder time keeping the people they have.  A new report from the Wisconsin Policy Forum highlights heavy turnover and a number of empty jobs inside state government.  The report says 16 percent of non-UW state employees left their jobs last fiscal year.  Veterans Affairs, Corrections, and the state’s Department of Health Services saw the most people leave.  Some of the turnover is because of retirements, and some is likely because of

WI Company Plans Shift Layoffs

Second, third, and weekend shift workers at the Ariens plant in Brillion are losing their jobs. The company announced a wave of layoffs yesterday. Ariens says it is ‘rebalancing’ its workforce. There is no exact number of just how many people are losing their jobs, but workers say it will be hundreds of people. Ariens is encouraging some of the laid-off workers to apply for open first shift jobs. Their last day will be tomorrow.

Pool Opening Delayed

Folks in Chippewa Falls are going to have to wait a bit longer to take a dip. Managers at the Bernard Willi Pool say a pipe burst, and that means the pool won’t open on Friday. Crime Lab Resources Caught in Debate

Wisconsin’s attorney general, and the man who ran against him last fall both say lawmakers need to spend more money on the state’s crime lab. A-G Josh Kaul, along with Fond du Lac County D.A. and former Republican A-G candidate Eric Toney, told reporters yesterday that the crime lab needs more people to keep up with a flood of new cases. Park Plan Moves Forward

The plan to make state parks free for fourth graders is moving ahead at the Wisconsin Capitol. State Senator Melissa Agard yesterday said an Assembly panel approved the plan yesterday. Agard says the idea is to encourage more Wisconsin families to visit our state parks by making them free for fourth graders, their parents and siblings. Governor Evers is expected to sign the plan if it makes it to his desk.

WI Waits For Rain

Yesterday’s drizzle was the first rain in Milwaukee in 29 days. The National Weather Service says it has been abnormally dry this spring, and forecasters don’t see that changing anytime soon. April saw two-point-24 inches of rain, an inch-and-a-half below normal. May saw less than an inch of rain, far below what we normally see. Forecasters say May 2023 was the driest May since 1994.

Arrest Made in Dunn Co. Home Invasion

On June 6, 2023 at approximately 3:25 AM, the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a home in the 5100 block of CTH C in the Township of Dunn for the report of a female that forced entry into their home.
