Bridge Repair Begins, Detours in Use

It will be a bit of a mess on the Highway OO bridge in Lake Hallie for the next two weeks. Crews started repair work on the bridge yesterday. A logging truck hit the bottom of the bridge back in February. The work will mean Highway 53 will be closed overnight for up to three nights, and eastbound OO could be closed for up to 10 days. Road to Redistricting Remains Bumpy

The top Republican in the Wisconsin Assembly says questions about the state’s newest supreme court justice, and whether she can hear the state’s redistricting case, remain unanswered. The state’s Judicial Commission yesterday dismissed the complaint that accused Justice Janet Protasiewicz of violating court rules when she called Wisconsin’s political maps ‘rigged’ during her campaign for the Supreme Court last spring. Tax Cut Returns to Capitol Conversation

Republican lawmakers at the Wisconsin Capitol are taking their first step toward another multi-billion dollar tax cut today. An Assembly Committee will hear testimony about the three billion-dollar tax cut that lawmakers proposed last week. The package would lower taxes for most taxpayers in the state, and would end the state’s tax on 150 thousand-dollars worth of retirement income. Republicans say that would make Wisconsin essentially tax free for most retirees. Governor Evers vetoed the Republicans’ last tax cut plan.

Lawmakers Support Sex Doll Ban

Wisconsin could become the next state to outlaw child sex dolls. A Senate committee yesterday listened to the plan that would make it a felony to have a doll that is designed to look like a child. The plan would include a three-and-a-half year prison sentence, or a 15-year prison sentence if the doll is made to look like a specific child. Bear Hunting Season Underway

The first of Wisconsin’s fall hunting seasons begins today. The state’s Department of Natural Resources says bear hunting season is now underway. There are three zones where hunters are allowed to use dogs to help in the hunt, and three zones in the state where they are not. Bear hunting season runs until October 10th. The DNR says this should be a ‘quality hunting season’ this fall.

“Ayyyyeeeee” Bronze Fonz Vandalized

Someone threw something on the Bronze Fonz. Channel 12 had the story last night that the statue on Milwaukee’s Riverwalk was covered in some sort of black substance. Milwaukee’s tourism managers, Visit Milwaukee, says it is aware of the damage and is working to get the Fonz cleaned-up. Milwaukee Police aren’t saying anything about suspects in the case.

Ariel Patrol Planned, Pics Posted

The Wisconsin State Patrol is watching for traffic violations from the sky. Aerial enforcement will be on I-39/90/94 in Columbia County and on I-39 in Marquette County Wednesday. If they spot someone speeding excessively or driving The Wisconsin State Patrol is sharing photos of drivers going 100 to 118 miles per hour. Even on the interstates and freeways, that’s at least 30 miles per hour over the limit. Speeding tickets can cost up to 800 dollars depending on the violation.

Marshfield Clinic Health System Offers Funding to Address Health Disparities

Marshfield Clinic Health System and Security Health Plan have dedicated $200,000 to drive innovative, community-led projects that improve health equity, including social determinants of health (SDOH). The program, titled Addressing Health Disparities, seeks to improve health equity by addressing health disparities. Health disparities are defined as: “preventable differences in health between groups that are experienced by groups with social, economic, and/or environmental disadvantages.” The Health System encourages tax-exempt and government agencies serving communities within the Health System service area to apply

Dog Alerts Family to Fire

Eau Claire Fire Department was dispatched for a structure fire at 3428 Hillview Rd early this morning at 2:11 AM. While fire units were on the way the Eau Claire Police arrived to find the rear deck on fire, and residents in the process of evacuating the home. Truck 8 company was the first to arrive on scene and reported light smoke coming from the rear of the structure. Their crew deployed an attack line and quickly extinguished the fire.

Bugling Elk Spotted Near Hwy. 7

Bugling elk have been seen or heard in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest near the town of Clam Lake recently near state highway 7 and county highway GG. Each year, elk are more visible now through early October. Officials in the area offer these tips as the area becomes more heavily visited by elk spotters.
