Wisconsin’s task force on child obesity is focusing on diet and exercise today. Doctors with the Wisconsin Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and SSM Health are expected to testify before the Speaker’s Task Force on Childhood Obesity in Milwaukee today. The YMCA is also expected to speak about childhood obesity. The task force is looking to see if there are any new tools, laws, or grants that can help with the public health challenges of obesity among Wisconsin’s kids.

The Bucks opened their season with a win against the 76ers, but more importantly Damian Lillard and Giannis looked great. Lillard had scored 39 points in his first game as a Buck, while Giannis had 23 points and 13 rebounds Milwaukee beat Philadelphia 118-117. Last night’s crowd of 17-thousand-783 was both a sell out, and the largest opening night crowd since 2018.

UW-Madison says its set a record for graduations. The university yesterday said more students earned their degrees than ever before last year, and they did it quicker than ever. UW-Madison says its four-year graduation rate jumped to 75-point-five percent last year, and the six-year graduation rate jumped to 89-point-3 percent. UW officials say they handed-out over 12 thousand degrees last year, it’s the first time Madison’s campus has ever done that.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers orders flags to half-staff to honor a former state representative. Former Representative John Klenke was born and raised in Green Bay and worked for Schneider National for two decades before running for Wisconsin State Assembly. Services for Klenke will be held today (Thurs.) and flags will be kept at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, October 28th.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers says the Wisconsin State Building Commission has approved more than 388 million dollars in key projects across the state. Approved projects include security improvements at Taycheedah Correctional Institution and the release of building trust funds to the Wisconsin DNR. There will also be a new Wisconsin History Center on Capitol Square, which Evers says will help keep an active hub for statewide history.

There’s record demand for help with Thanksgiving Dinners this year.   The Goodman Center is closing registration early this year because of record demand.   Goodman plans to provide more than four-thousand Thanksgiving meals to families this year.  The Goodman Center Food Pantry says need is at an all-time high in Dane County.  They’re asking the public to contribute food donations to help families with holiday groceries. 

Eau Claire will be hosting the next Snowshoe National Championship. The United States Snowshoe Association says the 2024 Championship will take place at Lowes Creek County Park. They expect the competition to attract enthusiasts from across the county.

Gills brand chopped packaged onions are being recalled because of a salmonella outbreak. Wisconsin is among 22 states with salmonella poisoning cases. Three are confirmed in Wisconsin. The Centers for Disease Control says there’ve been a total of 73 cases nationwide, and 15 hospitalizations. Packages and cups of Gills diced yellow or red onions are being recalled nationwide. On October 25, 2023, at approximately 4:53p.m., Lake Hallie Police Officers were dispatched to the 4200 block of 119th Avenue in the Village of Lake Hallie for a male subject that had been drinking and causing damage to vehicles. An officer observed a male subject fitting the description walking on the 40th Avenue bridge over Highway 53 and contacted the subject, identified as Michael Ludwigson (37 years old of Cameron).
