Barron Co. Emergency Response Team Called In, Man Arrested After Repeated Domestic Incidents

On Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 5:45 p.m., the Barron County 911 Center received a call of a domestic abuse incident occurring at a residence north of Chetek.

Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department with the assistance of the Cameron Police Department responded to the scene and met with the female victim. It was determined that the male
suspect was in the residence and needed to be taken into custody.

Deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect in the house but he refused to come out. The Barron/Rusk Armored Vehicle was used to provide cover for the deputies as they approached the house
with Barron County K9 Jasper.

Commands again were given from the armored vehicle for the suspect to exit the residence or the K-9
would be sent in. The suspect gave no response. Entry was made by K-9 Jasper and the deputies. The
suspect was located hiding in the bedroom and apprehended by K-9 Jasper. The suspect punched and
choked K-9 Jasper. A Taser, shield and physical compliance were used by deputies to get the suspect
into custody.

The suspect, Donald Springer, 60 from Chetek, was charged in Barron County Circuit Court on Friday, December 1st, with Domestic Abuse-Battery, False Imprisonment, and Criminal Damage to Property- Domestic Abuse, Resisting Arrest and Cause Injury to Police Animal. He was released on Friday, December 1st on a $1,000 cash bond with a condition to not have contact with the victim or the
residence.

On Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 5:40 p.m., the Barron County 911 Center learned from the victim that Don Springer had barricaded himself inside the residence he was not supposed to have contact with. Attempts were made instructing Mr. Springer exit the residence with no response. A search warrant was obtained for the residence to enter and locate Springer.

The Barron Rusk Emergency Response Team was called in to execute that warrant. The PA and diversionary device was used to attempt contact with him in the residence and no response was received. A ram was used on the door and window of the house and contact was made with him. At that time Mr. Springer did exit the residence and he was taken into custody.

Springer is being held in the Barron County Jail on the charge of violating the Domestic Abuse No Contact Injunction.
