New Hospital Opens Doors

Emerald Ash Borer Spreads the State

The emerald ash borer, an invasive species that first appeared in the state 16 years ago, has now been confirmed in all but one of Wisconsin’s counties.  This year marked the first time the insect was found in Washburn and Taylor Counties, with Burnett County the only county where it has not been found.  State officials expect the emerald ash borer will cause virtually all of Wisconsin’s white, black and green ash trees to die.  They recommend landowners avoid using

Water Quality Testing Begins

In another sign that summer’s near, the Eau Claire Health Department will begin testing beach water quality on Monday.  They’ll test seven local beaches for bacteria and harmful algae.  The annual program helps Eau Claire health officials decide whether to close a beach or if they need to post a water quality advisory sign.

Push Continues for Special Task Force

National Endangered Species Day, Plate Reduction

Packers Schedule Kicks Off

New Full Time Security Officer Added to Chippewa Co. Courthouse

The Chippewa County Courthouse will be getting a new full-time security officer. The County Board approved the new position yesterday as a response to the arrest of a man, accused of making threats to shoot up the building online. Harley Alcala was arrested last May and is currently committed to a hospital for mental health treatment. Change to Food Pantry Protocol

Federally-funded food pantries in Wisconsin will soon stop asking for visitor identification. Wisconsin state health officials say the changes aim to improve access to the Emergency Food Assistance Program. Some pantry leaders say this raises concerns about tracking demographic information and more potential for food shortages. The pantries will have the choice to ID users until October, when the state will require them to stop.

Suspect in Menomonie Robbery Arrested

On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at approximately 12:43 p.m., a suspect in the armed robbery that took place on May 10, 2024 at the Circle C & Deli at 2302 South Broadway was taken into custody. Andrew R. Horner, age 43, of Menomonie, was arrested for Armed Robbery with Threat of Force withHabitual Criminality enhancer, Carrying a Concealed Knife, Manufacture/Deliver Drug Paraphernalia, andPossession of THC. Horner is in custody at the Dunn County Jail.
