DNR Urges Safe Snow Habits

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is urging Snowmobile operators to stay sober. More conservation wardens will patrol the trails starting today. A special enforcement weekend comes as the agency reports six deaths related to snowmobile riding this year. The DNR’s Safe Sled Enforcement will have wardens watching for operators who may be impaired or causing safety problems to themselves or others. Safe Sled Enforcement runs through Sunday.

Wrong Way Driver Arrested, 4th OWI

Richard Howard Pechuman, 48 years of age, from Ham Lake has been arrested by the WisconsinState Patrol Eau Claire Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 4th offense. Wisconsin State Troopers were dispatched to a report of a wrong-way driver on Interstate 94 nearBlack River Falls in Jackson County. UW-River Falls Art Gallery Presents Exhibition with Dean Allison, Glass Figurative Sculptor

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Art Department is hosting an exhibition featuring the work of Dean Allison, a glass figurative sculptor, through Feb. 13 in Kleinpell Fine Arts Gallery 101, 420 E. Cascade Ave., River Falls. Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.   Allison, based out of Pittsburgh, is a studio artist working with figurative sculpture and the human condition in glass. He received his bachelor’s degree in studio arts from Illinois State University in 2001 and a Master of Art, Visual Arts in glass from The Australian National University in Canberra in 2010. He has worked at North Lands Creative Glass center in Scotland, Canberra Glass

Man Convicted in La Crosse Shooting

The verdict is in for a La Crosse charged in the shooting of his ex-girlfriend.  Prosecutors say that — in May of 2025 — Diontae Booth shot the woman at her aunt’s residence on Fifth Avenue South.  Booth was convicted Thursday on charges including Second Degree Reckless Injury with a Dangerous Weapon.  He will be sentenced at a later date.

Former School District Employee Indicted

In Chippewa County, a Cadott Community School District employee is facing legal troubles stemming from her time working for the Lincoln School District.  Danielle Mittermeyer has been indicted on charges related to her handling of Lincoln’s financial affairs between March of 2021 and August of 2025.  Mittermeyer — who was hired to work in the Cadott district in August of 2025 — has now been placed on administrative leave.  In a statement, the Cadott district says they have no concerns
