The state of Wisconsin is making the first changes to its bear hunting rules in almost 40 years. he Department of Natural Resources this week voted to create two new bear hunting zones, bringing the total to six. A DNR panel also voted to allow hunting with dogs in the newly created central Wisconsin zone. Opponents of the plan say it’s a stain on the state that Wisconsin allows people to use dogs to hunt bears.

The county’s emergency management department yesterday said while the Eau Claire and Chippewa rivers are no longer flooded, they are still very fast and very cold. County Emergency Management Coordinator Tyler Esh said there is a danger of hypothermia. He says if you do go out on the river, please be safe.

The district attorney’s office yesterday filed homicide charges against Miranda Jo Miller for the July 2017 crash that killed 46-year-old Jeremy Goodwin. Police say Miller ran a stop sign near the town of Colburn and smashed into Goodwin’s truck. Miller, who as 18 at the time of the wreck, could spend ten years in prison if convicted.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Prosecutors say Devine admitted that he was curious about child pornography. The TRIP group, which is a national transportation research nonprofit, yesterday released a report that says 19-percent of roads in the state are in poor condition. Another 21-percent are in mediocre condition. The TRIP group is one of many who say Wisconsin needs to find more money to improve its roads and bridges.
