GOP lawmakers are asking the appeals court to reverse a ruling that stops a series of lame duck laws which limit the powers of Democratic Governor Tony Evers.  On Thursday, Dane County Circuit Court Judge Richard Niess blocked the series of laws passed by Republicans in a lame-duck session in December.  A lawyer for GOP lawmakers says the ruling “is already causing serious harm to our state” and could undermine over 300 other laws and resolutions spanning the last 40

CHIPPEWA RIVER READINGS AND CLOSURES

Spring snowmelt run-off from the upper Chippewa River watershed is resulting in rising river levels on the Chippewa River in Eau Claire. At 11:30 a.m. today the Chippewa River gauge at Grand Avenue read 763.1 feet. This is 9.9 feet below the downtown flood stage of 773 feet. INFRASTRUCTURE TAKES HIT FROM FLOODING

Wisconsin’s infrastructure is taking a big hit from this month’s flooding.  The state Department of Military Affairs says today nearly two-million-dollars in infrastructure damage has been sustained.  Military veterans are volunteering their time and effort in Fond du Lac to help residents recover.  Green Bay is recommending flood victims call 2-1-1 for assistance.

EVERS TAPS INTO PUBLIC HEALTH ON WORLD WATER DAY

Governor Tony Evers is wishing Wisconsinites a Happy World Water Day and says he’s committed to making public health investments a priority.  The governor said today safe, healthy drinking water is a basic human right and his administration is going to make sure Wisconsin residents have quality water.  The governor says the state is investing 70-million-dollars to combat water pollution and replace lead pipes.  He’s also setting aside funding for a groundwater and geology study in Southwest Wisconsin.

GAS PRICES PLUMP UP AT THE FILL UP

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Wisconsin is up eight-cents-a-gallon from a week ago.  Triple-A says the average price statewide is two-dollars-and-59-cents today, while the national average is two-61.  The lowest prices are posted in Sheboygan and the Janesville-Beloit areas at two-53-a-gallon.  Drivers in the Superior area are paying the most at the pump at two-77 for regular gas.

MULTIPLE CARS INVOLVED IN BARRON CO. CRASH

An accident resulted in a patrol car being struck at the scene. It was just before 7 on Thursday night the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call of a head-on crash on Hwy 8 between Poskin and Almena. DRUG POSSESSION LANDS MAN IN PRISON

A Chicago man is going to prison for over five years after being convicted of possessing heroin with the intent to distribute it.  The Department of Justice reports Terry Glaspie was pulled over in Dunn County in January of 2018 with over 100 grams of fentanyl-laced heroin in his car.  Police say Glaspie was transporting the drugs from Chicago to Minneapolis so it could be sold.  He was sentenced yesterday to 66 months in prison.

PRISON TIME FOR RICE LAKE MAN

A Rice Lake man is going to prison after being convicted of beating a woman.  Jason Rush was sentenced yesterday to five years in prison followed by six years of supervised release.  Rush’s victim claimed Rush was on his way to get treatment for a meth addiction when he got mad, punched her, and hit her with an aluminum pipe.  Rush pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and false imprisonment as part of a plea deal.

“RUFF” RELATIONSHIP LEADS TO CHARGES FOR TEEN

An Eau Claire woman is accused of hitting cars in a parking lot because of a dispute over a dog.  A criminal complaint claims 20-year-old Kalika Mayer recently met with a 17-year-old girl and her dog in a pet store parking lot because Mayer said she missed her and the dog.  The teenager’s brother says he saw the two start to argue which led to Mayer ramming her car into three other cars before trying to take the teen’s dog.

University of Wisconsin is starting its run through the NCAA men’s basketball tournament this afternoon.  The fifth seeded Badgers will take on 12 seed Oregon at 3:30 in San Jose with the winner advancing to take on the winner between Kansas State and UC Irvine.  Although Wisconsin has the much better seed it’s only a two-point favorite.
