DEMO TIME!

Paint Bridge Creek is falling down, falling down, falling down…Demolition of the Paint Creek Bridge in Lafayette is underway. The process of tearing down the bridge began Wednesday and should be done with a bang by July 4th.  The cost to Chippewa County for removing the bridge is estimated at 65-thousand dollars.  The state has awarded money to construct a new bridge, with the county and township pitching in as well.

As the political season gears up here in Buckyland, early numbers show Governor Scott Walker leading all his Democratic challengers. The poll revealed that about a third of Democratic voters surveyed are still unsure who they plan to vote for. State Superintendent Tony Evers received the most support among undecided voters. AMERICANS ARE KICKING BUTTs!

We are good at kicking butts! The number of Americans who smoke cigarettes has reached the lowest level ever recorded.  The CDC reports just under 14 percent of Americans smoked in 2017.  In cities, the rate was even lower, however it’s higher in rural areas.  Fifty years ago more than 40 percent of Americans were smokers.

An Eau Claire native is back in her hometown campaigning for the position of State Treasurer. Sarah Godlewski cashed in on the chance to hold a round-table yesterday and says the three areas she’s focusing on are being a watchdog for taxpayer dollars, investing money wisely, and being a fiscal advocate. H2NOOOO…the water is putting a pause some projects around here and your morning dog walk could mean soggy paws. Flooding in Eau Claire is closing trails and delaying city construction. Work on the Haymarket Plaza and Grand Avenue Pedestrian Bridge has come to a halt as weekend storms have the waters of the Chippewa River quickly rising. Once the water recedes, work will also continue on a wall between the river and plaza to prevent future flooding.
