MAN NAMED IN OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

Authorities are releasing the name of the man involved in an officer-involved shooting in Eau Claire County.  Sheriff Ron Cramer said yesterday that 23-year-old Reese Diesterhaft was shot after a chase that started in Dunn County and ended in Eau Claire County. Cramer says the suspect stopped his vehicle, got out with a weapon, and officers fired, wounding him.  He was flown to a hospital but his condition hasn’t been released.  No officers were hurt.

RED AND BLUE LIGHTS IN BLACK RIVER FALLS

A high speed chase in July that started in Black River Falls has a man facing charges.  Corey Sprinkle was charged yesterday with trying to elude an officer.  Lake Hallie police say the chase happened after a reported theft at a home and hit speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.  Sprinkle has admitted to using meth and heroin earlier that day.

BACKPACKS ARE BACK!

The pencils, the notebooks, the new backpacks…Back to School is in the air. And locally, some kiddos got into the spirit! Roosevelt Elementary School students in Eau Claire are benefiting from Project Backpack.  There was an event yesterday where kids could pick out a backpack and fill it with school supplies.  Organizers say they had 200 backpacks total. DUNN COUNTY SHOOTING UPDATE

One suspect is injured after an officer-involved shooting.  Dunn County deputies responded yesterday to a complaint against the 23-year-old suspect, who was just released from prison three weeks ago.  The suspect had two warrants out for his arrest and had a weapon on him.  It was after a high speed chase that deputies exchanged fire with the suspect, who was wounded and then taken to the hospital for treatment.

CHARGES IN EC ROBBERIES

We have an update on the story we brought you yesterday, my dear Watson. A man is now facing charges in connection with a series of Eau Claire burglaries. Joshua Watson was charged with burglary yesterday and was issued a one thousand dollar signature bond.  Watson was arrested Friday in the Randall Park neighborhood after running from police.  He is set to run back to court in September.

The event was part of the senator’s In Your Corner Tour, a week-long swing through the state highlighting community issues.

ARREST MADE IN RANDALL PARK ROBBERIES

Eau Claire police broke out the handcuffs after a series of break-ins. Officers are investigating after an increase in burglaries this summer and they believe one man is connected to around 20 break-ins around the Randall Park neighborhood.  Police say 21-year-old Jason Watson was arrested Friday for burglary.  The investigation is ongoing.

OH DEER!

Oh DEER! The Wisconsin DNR and the Wisconsin Conservation Congress will be hosting a public meeting to discuss chronic wasting disease.  Wild deer in Eau Claire County tested positive for CWD in March.  The Chippewa Valley CWD advisory team is recommending voluntary surveillance permits for landowners willing to help get tissue samples for testing. If you are interested in being a part of that discussion, the meeting will happen August 20th at Rock Creek Town Hall.

THE PLAYBOOK IS CHANGING FOR STATE THEATRE

The curtain has closed and so has the list of options for the Regional Arts Council in Eau Claire. They are looking to put restrictions on the recently closed State Theatre building.  Restrictions were discussed at a landmarks commission meeting last night so that the building can’t be used for theatrical, musical, or similar events.  The State Theatre took its final bow and closed at the end of July.
