UPGRADES ON THE LOWER CAMPUS

Tell the study group…The LOWER campus is UPGRADED! The newly renovated dorms and updates at UW-Eau Claire are nearly completed.  Furniture was installed in Karlgaard Towers and work is almost finished on Garfield Avenue on lower campus.  The renovations have been underway since September 2017 which included new bathrooms, study lounges, refurbished rooms, air conditioning and replacing major mechanical systems.

CAMPAIGN STOPS HIT EC

ChooChoo! The political train is on the tracks and candidate for Governor Mike McCabe made a campaign stop in western Wisconsin over the weekend. He was in Eau Claire and held an event at Phoenix Park yesterday, saying his candidacy is about making a difference in the way government works. McCabe is one of eight Democrats vying for the nomination in the August 14th primary.  The winner will go on to face Governor Walker in the November general election.

KRAMER IS A HALL OF FAMER

Former Green Bay Packer Jerry Kramer has taken it to the End Zone! …he is officially a Pro Football Hall of Fame.  The Class of 2018 was inducted over the weekend. Kramer was an offensive guard for the Packers and a two-time Super Bowl champion.  He waited for more than three decades and was named a finalist for the Hall of Fame ten times without being accepted. AWWWW, SHUCKS: CORN CHASE FIELDS ARREST

It’s a corn field, not a maze, sir! Did you hEAR? A man is in custody after a chase by officers through Eau Claire-area cornfields. Officers say 32 year old Brandon Pember was caught on surveillance stealing a truck. That kernel of a bad decision lead to the chase down Curvue Road and into the corn fields.  Police say the man abandoned the truck and ran before being harvested ….er, caught.

NOT GUILTY PLEA ENTERED

The former executive director of the Eau Claire Regional Arts Center is facing trial on a sexual assault charge. Ben Richgruber entered a not guilty plea yesterday morning to third degree sexual assault.  He resigned his position in February after he was charged in connection with two unwanted sexual acts that allegedly took place inside his office in June 2016.

ELDER ABUSE GETS NEW ATTENTION

Attorney General Brad Schimel’s Task Force on Elder Abuse is taking action here in our area. Schimel was in Eau Claire yesterday to discuss the latest statistics. We are hearing now that reports of elder abuse cases have increased 160-percent in the last 16 years.  Schimel says officials are working together to understand and work on the issues.

The apple is more GREEN than red…and ripe with the sweet taste of success. Apple is the first American company to be valued at one-trillion-dollars.  The tech giant stock briefly hit the $207-dollar-five-cent-per-share price to bring it to the milestone.  Shares have skyrocketed since Apple reported better-than-expected quarterly earnings.

CHEESE BOARD SLICES OFF A RECORD

CHEESE LA-WEEZ!! WE GAVE A WINNER…and it’s US! A huge Wisconsin cheeseboard is now a huge hit, and a world record holder.  The nearly 35-and-a-half by seven-and-a-half foot platter was presented this week on Madison’s Capitol Square by the Nonprofit Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin. It held more than two tons of cheese, beating the former (2015) Dutch record holder by over a thousand pounds to SLICE off the win.  GOUDA work, guys!

WI WARNING

Hospitals in Eau Claire are on high alert following the first STATE death linked to synthetic marijuana.  State officials confirmed yesterday that the death had happened in Milwaukee County. There have been 45 cases statewide since March of people getting sick from using synthetic marijuana-sometimes called k-2 or Spice, which is illegal here, but you can still get at some stores.
