FEDERAL HELP FOR WISCONSIN VETS

Homeless veterans in our state are getting some help from the federal government to find jobs. The U.S. Labor Department announced over 47-million-dollars in funding with nearly 750-thousand-dollars in grants awarded to our state, intended to help homeless vets receive training, apprenticeship opportunities, job search and placement assistance.

THE GATES ARE OPEN!

Get those fishbowls and food flakes ready, The Northern Wisconsin State Fair is underway. The gates opened yesterday and the event kicked off as only the Fair can…which means pig, duck, and goat races, along with the Green Bay Packer Tundra Line and a pedal tractor pull. The fair is taking place in Chippewa Falls and runs through Sunday.

FARM TECH DAYS FIELDS THOUSANDS

Thousands PLOWED their way through Farm Technology Days –including our own Alex and Cora, as that is now underway in Wood County. The big event opened yesterday and features more than 600 exhibits. It is aimed at the agricultural community, showing the newest and greatest technology in the field, and is open to the public.  The gathering runs through tomorrow.

NOT JUST BLOWING SMOKE

We could see the GREEN light here soon as the Eau Claire Committee on Administration is discussing adding the legalization of marijuana to an upcoming referendum-and we aren’t just blowing smoke. The committee met yesterday afternoon to talk about the implications in the county.  Legalization of marijuana is already on the ballots in 20 others Wisconsin counties.

A “WHEEL” BIG DEAL

Get ready to empty the change from your cup holders… The city of Eau Claire is seeking a partnership with Eau Claire County in implementing a wheel tax. The City Council voted unanimously asking the County Board to work with the city as they are proposing a 30-dollar wheel tax to help cover the cost of county road repairs.  The City Council believes that Eau Claire residents will be paying most of the tax money and should see some of

BUCKY GOES BOOM

Two firefighters are hospitalized after a gas leak explosion and fire in Sun Prairie. A downtown bar was leveled in the explosion and a massive fire broke out at a pizza restaurant. That happened yesterday evening after a gas line was ruptured. Authorities began an evacuation immediately after the leak was reported. A search-and-rescue operation began after the fire was put out.

THE DUGOUT TURNS INTO A DOG-OUT

And the dugout was more of a DOGout yesterday as Eau Claire’s annual “Bark in the Park” was held to raise money for dogs battling cancer. Around 70 dogs attended last night’s event at Carson Park, which hit a home run with a dog parade around the baseball field.  All money FETCHED from dog ticket sales will go to the National Canine Cancer Foundation.

NEW PATROL ON THE PAYROLL

Some new badges on the payroll? That might be the case in Chippewa Falls as the Police Department is looking to add new officers. They are asking the city council for money to add two full-time officers.  Chippewa Falls currently has 23 officers, with 16 on patrol and the police chief says more officers are needed to meet the increasing number of calls in the growing city, and to avoid burnout.

Trump said the 53-year old Kavanaugh has impeccable credentials and is committed to equal justice under the law. He has a conservative background and worked in the George W. Bush administration.
