SENATOR BALDWIN ON BOARD FOR WAR POWERS RESOLUTION

Senator Tammy Baldwin is supporting the War Powers Resolution.  The measure would force debate and a vote in Congress to prevent further escalation of hostilities with Iran.  A companion resolution is being introduced in the U.S. House.  Baldwin says the Constitution is very clear that only the Congress has the authority to declare war and the president must come to Congress before pursuing any military action against Iran.

WI CO. MOVES AHEAD AS 2ND AMENDMENT SANCTUARY COUNTY

A proposal is moving forward for Brown County to declare itself a second amendment sanctuary county.  The proposal was debated at an executive committee meeting yesterday.  There was input from the community and supporters say the proposal shows that Brown County won’t let the right to bear arms to be infringed upon.  Florence County was the first in the state to pass a similar resolution in the fall.

MANHUNT FOR SUSPECT WHO SHOT TWO KIDS

There is a manhunt for whoever shot two kids over the weekend for throwing snowballs. Milwaukee Police say a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were wounded near 62nd and West Birch Saturday night. Officers say the two were throwing snowballs at cars, when one driver stopped and shot them. Neighbors say the kids shouldn’t have been throwing snowballs, but the driver didn’t have to resort to violence.

EAU.M.G! CITY SEES STEADY GROWTH

The city of Eau Claire is seeing population growth.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Wisconsin population increased by two-point-four percent from 2010 to 2019.  The economic director for Eau Claire says the city’s also seen steady growth due to opportunity, the local university, and low cost of living.

ON THIN ICE

The Wisconsin Department of Natural resources is warning people about the dangers of being out on ice.  The department says no ice is really safe because thickness can vary.  The DNR recommends people keep their phones in a waterproof bag, pack extra clothes, and keep an ice pick on them when on ice.  It also recommends checking with local fishing clubs about ice thickness.

PUT RADON ON YOUR RADAR

The Eau Claire City-County Health Department is making sure people are aware of the risks of having radon in their homes.  January is Radon Action Month for the Environmental Protection Agency.  The health department says about 40 percent of homes in the county have radon levels above EPA guidelines.  Cancer-dot-gov says radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in America.

LOCAL PIZZA PALACE COULD SLICE OFF UPGRADES

A Menomonie pizza restaurant could be getting a free renovation.  Reports say Ted’s Pizza Palace is one of five finalists to get a ten-thousand dollar renovation from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.  The finalists were chosen because of their location, how long they’ve been in business, and what potential upgrades will look like.  The winner will be chosen later this month.

EC SCHOOL BOARD LOOKS AT “EAU”PEN ENROLLMENT

Parents in Eau Claire may soon have the chance to pick a new school for their kids. The city’s school board last night talked about a new open enrollment program for the school district. Not every school will be open, the district says eight schools are at capacity will be closed to open enrollment. If school board members okay the idea, open enrollment would run from February till April.

PUBLIC MEETING ABOUT SEX OFFENDER RELEASE

The sheriff in Chippewa County is set to meet with neighbors next week to talk about a sex offender who’s been released in New Auburn. Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk says offender David Hager moved into a home in New Auburn last month. The sheriff will meet next Monday with neighbors who have questions or concerns. Hager was convicted in 1995 of three counts of incest with a child. The meeting is scheduled for January 13th 2020 at the New Auburn High School
