Wisconsin is a top ten place to live for folks in the U.S. The website Wallethub is out with its new rankings of the best places to live.  Wisconsin is ranked sixth.  The state gets high marks for its cost of living, as well as good rankings for the number of things to do and the number of places to eat.  Massachusetts is ranked first, Mississippi is ranked last.

In the Chippewa Valley dirt track racing began in the 1940s, ice racing in the 1950s, and there’s go kart, snowmobile, and motorcycle racing too. FATAL OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING IN WOOD CO.

A deputy in Wood County is hospitalized following a shooting.  Authorities say the unidentified officer was airlifted to a hospital after being shot last night while responding to a welfare check in the town of Arpin.  The subject of the welfare check died at the scene after a struggle involving weapons. The Wisconsin DCI is handling the investigation.

MAN FACES CHARGES AFTER SNAPPING PICS

A Sheboygan Falls man faces multiple felony charges in connection to invasion of privacy.  David Earley is accused of taking pictures up the skirts of girls and women in a retail store this week.  He allegedly hid a camera in a shoulder bag and then put the bag on the floor when near women wearing skirts.  A search of his home computer revealed videos of women showering at his workplace.

The Arc of Eau Claire, Chady Travel, Chippewa Valley Regional Airport, and United Express operated by SkyWest Airlines are co-hosting a Wings for All® event on July 13, 2019. This is a program by The Arc of the United States that provides individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families with a real-life simulation of the air travel

MENOMONIE DRUG BUST LEADS TO FELONY CHARGES

A Chippewa Falls man is facing drug charges in Dunn County.  Reports say the West Central Drug Task Force was running surveillance on Christopher Ursery at a motel in Menomonie.  Officers reportedly saw him using meth and he was arrested with over 125 grams of meth, ecstasy pills, and other drug paraphernalia.  Ursery is charged with two counts of felony drug possession with intent to sell.

CITY COUNCIL SQUARES OFF ABOUT ROUNDABOUTS

A new roundabout won’t be coming to State Street in Eau Claire.  A measure to construct the Roosevelt roundabout on State Street was voted down unanimously at the city council meeting earlier this week.   However, there are roundabouts set to be built at the Hamilton, Lexington, and MacArthur intersections.

WI TOPS IN FALLS

Research says Wisconsin leads the country in deaths from falls by people 65-years-old and older.  The Center for Disease Control says Wisconsin leads states with similar climates such as Minnesota and Michigan.  It also says unintentional injuries are the seventh leading cause of death among older adults, with falls accounting for the largest number of those deaths.

LOCAL BOUTIQUE TO CLOSE

A Marshfield boutique created to honor the life of a murdered girl is closing its doors.  Reports say Nicole Ledin opened Three Sisters Boutique when her daughter Cierra Hardrath was murdered last year.  But, because of the hard winter Ledin has decided to close the store at the end of this month.  Ledin and one of her friends are planning to turn Three Sisters into a pop-up tent shop under the same name instead.  Its first sale will be on

BACK ON THE BOOKS

Most of the laws that Republican lawmakers in Madison approved back in December are now back on the books.  The Wisconsin Supreme Court last night stepped-in ahead of a Dane County judge’s trial on one of the lame duck reform laws.  The decision means most of the laws have been reinstated.  The high court is handling an appeal to one of those laws, and says it should handle the other challenges as well.
