34 year old Demetrius Allen has been arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol Eau Claire Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 2nd offense, with two children in the vehicle under the age of 16. It was on Monday, at 12:16AM a Wisconsin State Trooper stopped a vehicle for speeding on I-94 west bound at MM 88. PUMP PRICES STEADY A BIT

The steady rise in Wisconsin gas prices may be slowing.  The state-wide average for regular unleaded is up about 14 cents from this time last month but is up only one cent from this time last week.  The average price is about five cents below the national average at two-dollars and 83-cents per gallon.  However, Eau Claire County has some of the most expensive gas in the state at two-dollars and 91-cents per gallon.

DRAFT PLAYBOOK HAS UW PLAYERS

The 2019 NFL Draft is in the books and a handful of University of Wisconsin players are heading to play at the next level.  Offensive lineman Michael Deiter was drafted in the third round and linebackers Ryan Connelly and Andrew Van Ginkel and offensive lineman David Edwards went in the fifth round.  Fullback Alec Ingold and linebacker T.J. Edwards both signed undrafted free agent deals after the draft and running back Chris James signed a rookie camp deal.

CONTROLLED BURNS HEAT UP LEARNING

Students at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire are learning about the importance of controlled prairie burns after the city’s first of the year was held yesterday.  The students joined Prairie Restoration from the Twin Cities to set fire to invasive grass along the Little Niagara Creek.  The students will learn about the burn by watching prairie grass grow in the area throughout the summer.

SMILE, EAU CLAIRE!

The City of Eau Claire is looking nicer after a weekend clean-up effort.  Reports say dozens of volunteers gathered on Saturday to participate in the Amazing EC Clean-Up where they picked up trash, fixed flower beds, and swept up streets.  The Eau Claire communications director says the event was a great way for the community to come together and take pride in the city.

LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT REMEMBERS OUR GIRL SCOUTS

Wisconsin lawmakers are considering a bill that would give more protections to people volunteering to clean up roads.  The Adopt-A-Highway Bill would double fines for traffic violations near volunteers working on roads just like in work zones and highway maintenance areas.  The bill is inspired by the November death of three Girl Scouts and a mother who were picking up trash on the side of a highway in Lake Hallie-and on that note, keep your eyes out in our community

HIGH COST OF WAGE PROTESTS

It remains to be seen what will come of last week’s pay protest at the University of Wisconsin.  Campus police escorted about 15 graduate students from the dean’s office on Friday.  They forced their way into the office to protest what they say are low wages.  The protesters complained that they only made 20 thousand-dollars a year while getting their degrees at UW Madison.  Police are not saying if they will ask for charges against the students, and the school is

ADDING TO HEALTHCARE ROLLS INTO DOLLARS

Governor Tony Evers’ sales pitch to add over 80 thousand young men to Wisconsin’s healthcare rolls is working.  A number of Republicans in Madison say they think the state should expand Medicaid to get all of the money the governor is promising would come to the state.  State Senator Luther Olsen last week said lawmakers need to keep an open mind.  The governor has promised that 324 million-dollars extra from Washington D.C. could be turned into a billion-and-a-half dollars here

WI DAIRY INDUSTRY GOES TO WASHINGTON

The folks who run Wisconsin’s dairy industry are asking President Trump to help them move Congress forward on the new trade deal with Canada and Mexico.  The Wisconsin Dairy Alliance wrote an open letter to the president before his visit to Green Bay on Saturday that pleaded with him to move Congress to ratify the new deal.  The Dairy Association’s Cindy Leitner says time has already run out for too many dairy farms in the state.

MAN KILLED IN DUNN CO. MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT

We now know the name of the man killed in a motorcycle accident in Dunn County. It was on Friday about 12:41 AM when responders were dispatched to the intersection of County Road V and 490 th St., in the Township of Sheridan, for a motorcycle crash. The investigation showed the motorcycle was Eastbound on County Road V and failed to negotiate the curve.
