POWER BACK ON AFTER STRONG WINDS

Just about everyone in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls should have their lights back on. Xcel Energy said as of 3 a.m. less than 30 people in the Chippewa Valley were in the dark. At the worst of it yesterday, more than three thousand people lost power as high winds swept across western Wisconsin. There were also strong thunderstorms. There are no reports of any serious injuries.

WI LOOKS TO BOOST FARMERS

One of Wisconsin’s largest farm groups says direct payments from the federal government will help a lot of farmers in the state. The Wisconsin Farmers Union yesterday said the 19 million-dollar farm aid package will keep farmers afloat during the coronavirus outbreak. But the group’s President Darin Von Ruden says the USDA also needs to look at the underlying issues as to why so many farmers have been struggling for years, even without the virus.

MARSHFIELD ARREST LEADS TO METH BUST

An arrest takes some meth off the streets in Marshfield. It was on April 19th, just before 230 on Sunday afternoon when officers investigated a complaint at 2121 W Veterans Parkway in Marshfield of a suspicious person. SERVING UP IDEAS TO OPEN SOONER

Tavern League of Wisconsin President Chris Marsciano wants bars, restaurants, and supper clubs to open up next week.  He says other businesses have figured out ways to open and safely serve the public during the coronavirus pandemic.  Marsciano suggested all employees wear masks and gloves, all tables be put six feet apart, and premise capacity reduced by 50-percent.  Other proposals included getting rid of paper menus, table condiments, salad bars, and self-serve buffets.  He notes eateries have to protect their customers and

HEALTH DEPARTMENT LOOKING FOR DETAILS IN DOG BITE INCIDENT

The Eau Claire City-County Health Department is seeking assistance in locating a dog that bit a man, Saturday, April 18th at approximately 2:00 p.m. The bite occurred on the sidewalk of Morningside Drive, South of the intersection of Morningside Drive and Birch Street. The Clark County Health Department is confirming its first COVID-19-related death. The health department said the person who passed away yesterday was an elderly adult. SIGN UP TO LACE UP!

The University of Wisconsin and its system schools are hosting a virtual event to get people outside during the COVID-19 pandemic. School officials say students, staff, and faculty are now encouraged to sign-up online and select a running distance. People are then encouraged to post photos of their run on social media. U-W is in partnership with the Wisconsin Intramural Recreational Sports Association. People have until April 26th to sign-up and complete their run.
