DENTIST “BRUSHES” UP ON HOLIDAY TRADITION

Kids in Eau Claire may want to count their candy bars. An Eau Claire dentist, Dr. Courtney Reich, is offering parents five dollars-per-pound for Halloween candy. She says the idea is to avoid cavities. Kids will get a toothbrush for their troubles. Reich and the other dentists at Oakwood Hills Family Dental are limiting the candy buy-back to just one pound per kid. You can swing buy and sell what’s left starting Monday.

It is Halloween and Wisconsinites are joining 170 million other Americans in celebrating.  Candy industry website candy-dot-com says it’s research shows over 50-percent of parents stash some Halloween candy to enjoy later in the year and the average household spends 25-dollars for Halloween candy.  Starburst is the favorite candy in the Badger State with nearly a 110-thousand-pounds distributed at Halloween. The second favorite candy in Wisconsin is Butterfinger followed by Hot Tamales.

HEMP APPLICATION SEASON OPEN

Hemp licensing applications and registrations are available for the 2020 Wisconsin growing season starting today, Nov. 1. The deadline for current licensees to renew their registration is March 1, 2020. New licensees can apply at any time during the year. Wisconsin’s research pilot program requires that anyone who wants to grow or process hemp obtain a license from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, and register their intent to grow or process in the coming season. EC MAN PLEADS NO CONTEST TO CHILD ABUSE

An Eau Claire man is pleading no contest to felony child abuse.  A criminal complaint claims David Marshall admitted to shooting a six-year-old with a BB gun as discipline.  Marshall initially denied shooting a toddler but police say he eventually admitted to that as well.  He entered the no contest plea on Wednesday.  His sentencing hasn’t been announced.

ONALASKA MAN ARRESTED FOR SHOOTING

A person is in custody in connection with a shooting investigation in West Salem, just northeast of La Crosse.  Reports say Onalaska resident Curtis Green was arrested earlier this week for a shooting that happened in the 500 block of Brickl Road last Saturday.  The victim was taken to the hospital and has since been released.

PARENTS URGED TO CHECK CANDY

Authorities around Wisconsin are warning about meth showing up in kids’ Halloween candy this year.  The Grant County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook Wednesday a picture of candy laced with the drug that was found in southern Wisconsin.  The sheriff’s office wants parents to check kids’ candy for similar issues.

DOG’GONE IT

A contagious virus that affects dogs is being reported in the Chippewa Valley.  Kindness Animal Hospital in Chippewa Falls says it treated two dogs for kennel cough on Tuesday.  Kennel cough is a virus that causes dogs to develop a bad cough.  Some dogs can fight the virus off themselves, but some will need to get a vaccine.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! A jury may see the man who police say ran down three western Wisconsin Girl Scouts try and explain himself. A judge yesterday ruled that prosecutors can use the videotaped interview with Colten Treu as evidence.
