A Lake Hallie bar is severely damaged after a fire.  The Chippewa Fire District said flames and heavy smoke were coming from the top of the building yesterday evening.  They say the fire is under investigation and is not considered suspicious.

Task Force to Focus on Indigenous Woman

The members of a new state justice department task force are working to get an accurate count of missing and murdered indigenous women.  The Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Task Force includes representatives from each of Wisconsin’s tribal nations, state Attorney General Josh Kaul, Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes, and others.  Kaul says the task force will also address the problems that lead to the creation of the task force and how they can improve and propose legislation.  The task force will

Rising Costs During Dropping Temps

Xcel Energy says Eau Claire residents using natural gas to heat their homes will see their bills go up this winter.  Xcel says residents can expect up to a nine-percent rise from increasing natural gas costs and colder weather than last year.  Xcel says you can save money by letting in sunlight and covering drafts.

WI Coronavirus: Numbers Up; Evers Pushes Distance; EC Examines “Expectations”

The number of coronavirus positives and coronavirus hospitalizations are up in Wisconsin. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported just over 37 hundred new positive tests. The seven day positive test average is now over 10 percent. DHS is also reporting more hospitalizations. There are now over one thousand people in the hospital with the virus. Homicide Investigation Continues in Chippewa Co.

Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk yesterday said the body found in the county Wednesday night is tied to a homicide case. The sheriff is not offering any details about the case, or identifying the victim yet. Deputies found the body Wednesday in an area south of 29 Pines on County Highway T. There is a person of interest in the case, but no arrests as of yet.

WI Dells Man Charged in Kidnapping Plot

The latest man to be charged in the plot to kidnap and potentially kill Michigan’s governor is from the Wisconsin Dells. Michigan’s attorney general yesterday charged 51-year-old Brian Higgins with material support of an act of terrorism. The A-G says Higgins allowed members of the Wolverine Watchmen to use his night vision goggles to do surveillance on Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s cottage, and that he used his dash camera to do some recon work himself. The DNC Host Committee yesterday said it raised nearly 43-million-dollars for what was supposed to be a four-day extravaganza in July. WI Election Commission Looking into Poll Worker Shortages

The head of Wisconsin’s Election Commission hopes not to need the National Guard to pull-off next month’s election. Election Commission Administrator Meagan Wolfe yesterday said about 50 communities are short poll workers, but most are short just a few.
