EC School Board Votes to Bump Substitute Pay

Eau Claire schools are the latest to offer teachers more to fill-in in the classroom. The city’s school board last night approved an extra 23 dollars-a-day for long term substitute teachers. That brings the total pay for subs up to 201 dollars-a-day. Eau Claire schools say they need substitutes more than ever this year because of the coronavirus.

Arrest Made in Menomonie Stabbing Incident

Menomonie Police make an arrest after a weekend stabbing. It was on November 1st that the Menomonie Police Department responded to the 700 Block of S. Broadway St. for a report of a male that was stabbed. Officers arrived and provided medical care to the victim, who was then transported to the hospital by Menomonie Fire Rescue. Bond Set at $2 Million

Bond is set at two-million-dollars cash for the Illinois teenager charged with killing two people during protests in Kenosha.  Kyle Rittenhouse made his first court appearance today since being extradited from Illinois on Friday.  His appearance was virtual.  Rittenhouse faces six charges including first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree reckless homicide for the August killings.

WI Sees Dip in Coronavirus Deaths

The coronavirus positivity rate continues to rise in Wisconsin, but the state reported its fewest daily death tally in more than a month.  The Department of Health Services today reported three new deaths, which is the fewest reported in one day since September 28th.  There were over 34-hundred positive tests confirmed today with a positivity rate of 30-percent.

WI Election Results Likely to Stretch into Wednesday

Wisconsinites watching the election tomorrow need to know the state’s unofficial results will probably not be known until sometime Wednesday.  Tens of thousands of voters in the state have already cast ballots but there are a number of absentee ballots to be counted with unofficial results expected sometime Wednesday.  Polls close at 8 p.m. tomorrow, but if there are voters waiting in line at 8:00 they will still be able to vote.

Packers Positive Could Affect Upcoming Game

A Green Bay Packers player is testing positive for COVID-19.  The team announced the positive test today saying the organization has entered the NFL’s intensive protocol and the player is self-quarantined.  The team has not identified the player but the NFL Network says running back A.J. Dillon is the player who tested positive.  Contact tracing is underway and there’s no word as to how it may affect Thursday night’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Menomonie Police Department’s fifth annual ‘Food For Fines’ program is under way. The program runs from November 1 until December 31, with donations benefitting the Stepping Stones of Dunn County food pantry. ‘Food For Fines’ allows citizens to pay off basic parking fines through donations during the holiday season. From November 1 through December 31, citizens may bring in nonperishable food items to the Menomonie Police Department to receive $2 off for each item donated. Alternate side parking is in effect in Eau Claire. Starting November 1st through May 1st, the date will correspond with the correct side of the street to park on. If it’s the second day of the month, then it’s the side of the street with even addresses that you’ll park on. Alternate side parking is enforced from midnight to 7 a.m. daily.

Fill Up Dips Down

Gas prices in Eau Claire are down to start November. According to Gas Buddy, the average price for a gallon of gas was two-dollars-and-16-cents in October, which is still down about fifty-cents from this time last year. Gas prices dropped as low as 1.83 cents at the start of the coronavirus pandemic in April. They’ve slowly climbed back up as the economy recovers and more drivers get back on the road.
