WI Coronavirus Cases Trend Down; Moderna Vaccine Expected

The latest coronavirus snapshot in Wisconsin shows another sign the coronavirus is continuing the downward trend. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported the fewest number of new positives in a month. DHS reported just over 14 hundred new positives and eight new deaths. DHS also updated its recovered report. The state now says 91 percent of the people who’ve ever tested positive for the coronavirus in Wisconsin have been declared fully recovered. Winter Winners For Outdoor Fun

There is one big asterisk in the Department of Natural Resources latest suggestion for Wisconsin. There’s not a lot of snow. DNR yesterday released its annual winter fun guide.  One of the Wisconsin Army National Guard’s smallest units arrived safely at Volk Field before reuniting with their families Dec. 18 after an 11-month mobilization to the Horn of Africa and Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti. The five-person 1967th Contracting Team completed demobilization requirements in Texas before state leadership greeted them with a homecoming ceremony different than anyone imagined when they left last January. Skating Into 2021

Eau Claire Parks, Recreation, and Forestry announces that outdoor skating rinks are NOT ready for use due to unseasonably warm weather in December. Rink installation requires cold temperatures, many layers of water, and frequent flooding. Crews will continue to flood rinks this week as temperature allows. Gov. Evers Expecting Moderna Vaccine in WI Soon

Governor Tony Evers says Wisconsin is expecting shipments of the Moderna vaccine to begin arriving at hospitals and clinics across the state this week.  The initial shipment is expected to be 16-thousand doses.  State health officials plan to receive a total of 100-thousand doses in the upcoming weeks. LifeLink Plans to Add in WI

LifeLink 3 plans to open a new air medical base at the Rhinelander-Oneida Airport.  The company announced today it plans round-the-clock operations beginning in the spring.  This will be the third base for Life Link 3 in Wisconsin with other bases in Marshfield and Rice Lake.  LifeLink helicopters have advanced clinical capabilities and are considered airborne intensive care units.

Grant Leads to Hires for Cinder City

The Altoona Fire Department is announced the department was awarded and has accepted a three-year grant in the amount of $587,560.32 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant program. The most recent submission was Altoona’s second attempt at applyingfor the FEMA SAFER grant. Snow Could Arrive in Time for Christmas

There’s a more than a 50-percent chance Eau Claire will see a white Christmas. The National Weather Service Twin Cities says the coldest air of the season so far is moving across the region Wednesday with northwest winds gusting 30-to-40-miles an hour. They say Eau Claire has a 56-percent chance for at least an inch of snow or more Wednesday into Thursday.
