Readin’ ‘Ritin’ and Reopening

The CDC will announce guidelines today on reopening schools in the U.S.  The guidelines are expected to recommend protective masks, social distancing, proper hygiene and building ventilation, and could also address whether teachers need vaccinations.  President Biden has vowed to reopen schools within his first 100 days in office.  He has also proposed 130-billion dollars for school reopening’s in his COVID relief bill.

Search Continues

The search for a missing Barron County man continues. The sheriff’s department says a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources aerial search couldn’t locate 22-year-old Ben Jacobson’s missing truck. Police say Jacobson was last seen Monday and didn’t show up for work Tuesday.

Open Trails, Temps Cold

It may be too cold this weekend to go snowmobiling, but the trails around Eau Claire County are open for the season. You may have been paging through the The Leader-Telegram and read that the 181-mile network of trails opened Wednesday. The National Weather Service says temperatures will feel like 30-and-40-below with bitter cold wind chills expected all the way through Tuesday morning.

Green Bay Gets Blue Ribbon

Green Bay is number ten on a list of Midwest cities with high salaries and a low cost of living. According to personal finance experts at The Ascent, Des Moines, Iowa, residents’ income to expense ratio is the best on the list. St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota follow. The report says Green Bay residents work in unusually high numbers in fishing, forestry, farming, and production industries.

WI Vaccination Rollout Continues, Walgreens to Distribute

Family Members Face No Charges

Prosecutors in Oshkosh are not charging the mother and brother of the teenager suspected of gunning down another teen at the Fox River Mall late last month. The D.A. yesterday said no charges are being filed at this time against Shirina Willis and her son Ralph Ellis. Police arrested them for lying about shooting suspect Dezman Ellis’ whereabouts during this month’s manhunt for him. The D.A. is not offering a reason as to why there will be no charges.

Driver Speaks Out After Dive Off Interstate

There was nothing he could do. The Pewaukee man who plunged off the I-94 overpass Saturday morning told Good Morning America yesterday that his wheels got caught in the snow, and there was no way to stop from going over the side of the interstate.  Richard Oliver says he broke his back and his legs in the fall, but he says he’s lucky to be alive.  Video of his plunge has gone viral.  Milwaukee County’s sheriff’s office is still investigating

State Auditors to Tackle Election

State auditors are going to look into questions about absentee and indefinitely confined votes from November. Lawmakers yesterday approved a state audit of the November Election. State Representative Joe Sanfelippo says the audit needs to answer questions about whether state election laws were followed, and if they were followed uniformly across the state.
