A Rusk County man accused of sexually assaulting a young child is in jail. A criminal complaint says 24-year-old Gerardo Torres Junior admitted to having sexual contact with a boy who was just six-years-old. Torres is facing up to 60-years if convicted.

Eau Claire Man Denied Lower Bond

An Eau Claire County man accused of hiding a corpse is denied a lower bond. You may have seen this on television as WQOW-TV reports Roger Minck appeared in court virtually on yesterday after being issued a ten-thousand-dollar cash bond in January for charges related to hiding a body, selling drugs, and burglary. Search for City Manager Shelved

Eau Claire is going to wait awhile longer to try and find a new city manager. The city council agreed to pause the search for a new city manager for several months. City leaders say they want to find a wider slate of qualified candidates. Engineering Director Dave Solberg will serve as interim city manager until someone new is picked.

Local Vaccine Supply Low

Chippewa County has gotten only about 60 percent of the coronavirus vaccine doses it has requested. County Health Director Angela Weideman says they are continuing to be shorted by the state and federal government. Weideman says she’s canceled several vaccine clinics that her office was supposed to host. Weideman says she hopes that the vaccine supply will increase, and that she can finally get the shots to the people who need them the most.

WI Coronavirus Cases Continue to Fall

Wisconsin’s coronavirus numbers are so low, the state is changing how it is tracking the virus. The state’s Department of Health Services this week said it is no longer tracking cases by a week-long, per-person average. DHS says not enough people are being tested for the first time to make that number valuable. Yesterday’s seven-day per-test average was under four percent, and DHS reported just 821 new positives. Benching Sports Linked to Student Depression

It’s another measure of just what the school shutdowns because of the coronavirus means for kids. A new UW-Madison study shows that canceling high school sports led to a spike in depression among student athletes. Young women suffered more than young men, and the study says depression rates were highest among athletes in team sports. In-Class Schools Get Budget Boost

Schools that are fully open for in-person classes in Wisconsin are seeing a bit more money from Madison. The legislature’s budget committee yesterday approved 69 million-dollars for schools that have students back in their classrooms. Senate budget chief Howard Marklein said the legislature wants to send the message that kids need to be in school. The 69 million is just a fraction of the 617 million that the state is getting from the federal government for schools.
